Cover Photo Showing Up for a Product I Didn't Create a Cover Photo For!

There's a cover photo of a coffee mug that's showing up as the cover photo for my pickleball paddle!

I can't get rid of the incorrect cover photo. I've tried adding another cover photo, but only that one can be removed.

@WHS_Designs I don't see any coffee mugs (on .com)

Me neither. Must have been some sort of a technical hiccup.

@Cat

the weird thing is that I'm seeing my cover photo for that jumbo coffee mug on my pickleball paddle product page, whether I'm signed into my account or signed out of it!

@WHS_Designs have you cleared your cache? Could be a browser issue too?

I think @Cristina has solved my problem! 🙂

@WHS_Designs is it this photo of a coffee mug

@Sara_H no, it isn't! 🙂 but thank goodness, you're not seeing it!

here's what I'm seeing (when I'm logged into my account):

Oh wow! That's totally bizarre. You know, I've been seeing some strange things today too - like I was trying to arrange the products in a collection and one of the cards was showing up like 20 times! I thought it was just me but now I'm wondering if they are having some technical issues today or something.

@Cat I would not be surprised to hear that all the recent tinkering under the hood has been producing some really odd behaviors and issues!

Sara_H

@Cat I thought I was seeing things adding a dry erase board to a back to school - showed up 3 times in a row

@WHS_Designs I think we can say the turning on of the video option is causing some site issues  (that's what I think) and it's friday so will probably be like this for a while. The gremlins have landed

WHS_Designs

@Sara_H

that is a possibility! thank goodness I have other devices I can go and check these things up on so I don't have to question my sanity too often in a day! 😉

PS. I'm keeping my mogwai unwatered, untanned, and unfed. 😉

@Cristina oh dear ... sounds like at least one other creator can see this ... folie a deux!

are you using the coffee mug cover photo as a cover for the entire collection?

@Cristina not intentionally! 🙂 I can't find a way to get rid of them, either! 😞

I see the mug... I think Cristina has the answer - is that mug image in the collection media?

WHS_Designs
Honored Contributor II

yes! currently, it is the only cover photo I have done for that particular Collection.

@PenguinPower @Cristina @Sara_H

I've removed this from the Images section in the Media Manager, which has removed it from showing up as a cover photo for this collection.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has helped to solve this mystery!! 💐

Well then... If putting images into the collection media tab replaces your default product image on every product in the collection, who would want that? Makes it pretty unusable/undesirable.. What happens, I wonder, if you add more than one image to that tab?

WHS_Designs
Honored Contributor II

@PenguinPower it just seems to default to the image in the first (left most) image slot.

Cat

@PenguinPower "who would want that?" This is my question! On whatever other thread it was where this was being discussed before, Scott said he didn't think it was going to use the collection cover in place of the product image, but the text sure makes it sound like that's what the plan was, and it sure seems like that's what it was doing in this case. I dunno... I'm just hoping it's a bug because this doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I spell out this behavior in my original post: https://community.zazzle.com/t5/general-zazzle-discussion/upcoming-testing-on-the-product-page/m-p/9...

The product preview image gallery will now contain the primary collection image. If your collection image contains multiple products in the suite then this could help bring some attention to related products.

So, if your primary collection image (Collection's Cover Photo, if you will) contains multiple products, or if its a general themed image for the collection as a whole, then this could draw attention to the fact that there's other products that may match with the current product. This could turn a sale of one product into a sale of multiple products.

As for whether this is good or bad, let's let customers decide.

I think maybe we're talking about different things. What you're describing here is the fact that the primary collection image (collection cover) is displayed in the list of views on the product page. That makes complete sense to me, and it seems to be how it's working for all products in any collection that has a cover image.

cover-collection-in-image-list.jpg

What I'm puzzling over is something different. It's the setting under the Marketplace Channel (the thing on the right-hand side of the collection management page) where it says: "Select up to 10 products for which you would like Zazzle to show the collection image instead of the product image in search."

show-collection-image-instead.jpg

That seems to imply that for certain products, you can choose to display the collection image instead of the product image on search pages. I suppose that's fine if your product is displayed prominently in the collection image, but it seems like it could be confusing to the customer - though maybe it depends on the collection and image in question.

At any rate, my concern was that when I created an image for the collection shown above, it automatically selected the first 10 products in the collection and turned this feature on. I have since un-selected them, and I don't think it did anything anyway because, as the screen says, this feature is "coming soon" so it's not yet active. But (assuming I understand this feature correctly and it will indeed show the collection image in place of the product image in searches) I think it should NOT turn in on by default because if the product does not appear in the collection image it would be SUPER confusing for customers.

OK, sorry for the LONG comment. Hope that clears up what I'm confused about! 🙂

OK... So there's this setting under the Zazzle Marketplace Channel in collections where you can choose up to 10 products that will display the collection cover image instead of the product image. There was a bunch of discussion/disagreement on some thread recently (I'll see if I can find it) about what this feature was supposed to do, but it sure sounded like it was going to show the collection cover instead of the product image.

Anyhow, I haven't done a lot of collection covers - but on one of the collections where I did one, it had automatically chosen 10 items for this "feature." I un-checked them all - but you might want to check that setting to see if any products are checked where you don't want them to be.

@Cat thanks! I haven't done any Collection covers (only the old-style rectangular Collection banners, which don't appear to be showing).

Cat
Honored Contributor III

So basically, it snarfed a cover photo from another product in the collection, set that image as the collection cover, and then proceeded to use that cover for other products in the collection?!? That's gotta be a bug - at least let's hope so!

I just looked at a recently updated collection of mine where I placed a cover photo that did not relate to the image in the collection.

  • I finally saw what the new collection pod/s look like!
  • my collection cover image was at the top of the product image selections, but did not show on any of the (10?) specially chosen images as the product image.

Here is the collection "Thanksgiving Dinner"

Cat
Honored Contributor III

Well... I took a look and have a few observations along the lines of trying to figure out exactly how this is all supposed to work.

First of all, when the product page opens it shows the product image as the default image, but the collection cover is there too. I'm comforted to know that it didn't replace the product image with the collection cover, just showed it in addition to the product images.

thanksgiving-card-product-page.jpg

So then I did a search for the card to see how it shows up in the marketplace. And it also shows the product image there - it didn't replace the product image with the collection image, so that's good news!

thanksgiving-card-search.jpg

Is that card checked as one of the 10 products? Just trying to sort out if that "feature" does anything and if so, what it is!

@Cat  If you page down below the "Other products you might like" on the product page, you see the 10 Selected items in the "Collection POD" (if you are able to see the new format - I wasn't able to see these until this week!). I only marked 6 items in the collection and the card you looked at WAS NOT one of the selected items. The first 4 items in the Collection Pod (CP) are the same on every product in the collection.

OOHHH ... I just saw the PRICING information (including discounted red pricing) is available when you hover over a product in the CP
