Design transfer option skews sales stats on product page....any solution ideas?

So the design transfer option is wonderful in providing additional sales, no question, but, it really throws off the stats on our product pages for quantity sold. For instance, I had a fabulous bulk sale yesterday where the customer transfered from a wedding planner to 50 shot glasses... can't complain about that 😁 .. but now, when I look at the quantity sold for the planner, I see a total of 61 instead of what should really only be 11.

I don't want to look back at these stats sometime in the future and decide, wow, I sell a lot of planners ... maybe I should make more, when in actuality maybe I should be creating more shot glasses.

Just as a side note: the royalty history CSV shows the correct product sold, but it doesn't mention anywhere that it's been transferred from a different product.

So that's the problem, but I can't think of a suitable solution ... anyone have any ideas?

I don't have any ideas for fixing the back end of the store... But if you want to keep track of what actually sold and not what looks like sold you could make a pinterest board. I started one myself not too long ago, were I only post exclusively products only when they sell. If someone transfers a design from one product to another I try to make sure I go to that transferred product to pin it instead of the one it was originally on, so that way I know exactly the items that sold 😁

it may not be ideal *shrugs* but its a thought

Thanks for your input ShadoWind (I love that name by the way and you have some beautiful artwork! 🙂)

I don't think pinning will work for me in this case, but it may help others who read the thread. I'm really hoping for a backend solution that will eliminate the need for me to create a new spreadsheet or add to my pinning workload..lol.

I hope that a backend solution can be found @Baylee  and on another note I absolutely love the idea of the Pinterest board specifically for sold products, @ShadoWind ! I am going to start doing that. I did something similar at Flickr when I was learning photography and posting photos for Creative Commons usage. I kept track of where those photos were showing up and it's a pretty interesting record to look back on. In time, the Pinterest sold products board would function in the same way., showing  trends and acting as a motivational tool, too.

Pinterest and Me. We're a thing again.

I've just spotted this post having stumbled across the same problem, so thanks for raising the issue 🙂 I don't know if the CSVs were changed after you posted this, but the last two columns currently show if a design was transferred 👍

EDIT: Just seen this issue raised elsewhere, but can't see how to delete.

Hi,

I've just noticed that my store shows me having sold 10 buttons of a certain design, but 8 of those were actually transferred to keychains, giving me the wrong idea that the buttons are popular (until I noticed the mismatch in the downloadable spreadsheet). Is this a known bug, or even regarded as a bug?

Thanks

@Zob1  I just checked out the CSV report. Yes there are two columns relating to the Transfer option.

IS TRANSFERED (yes/no)  ORIGINAL PRODUCT TYPE (same information as listed under the 4th column (PRODUCT TYPE)  It would be more useful if it showed to what product type the image was transferred to.

@BKMuir in my CSV, those two columns are always different (even if only slightly at times eg. postcard to postcard2), so I'm not sure what's happening there 🤔

Seems like a technical issue?  If a design is transferred/sold to a different product, the number sold counter on the original product should not increase.

Since the product the design was transferred to doesn't actually exist in your store there's nothing to credit the sale to except the product the design was copied from which does falsely inflate the sales stats for that product but on the bright side, it also increase the "ranking" for that product. I'd prefer having my stats be off than having sales that don't result in any product getting the "boost" from having counted as sold.
