Holiday Products

This is my first holiday season with a Zazzle store. I am looking for thoughts, feedback, personal experiences, etc with designing products specific to holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, News Years). I did some quick holiday searches and the marketplace is heavily saturated dripping wet with holiday products. Is the time invested with product creation worth the return? Also, what do I do with holiday products after the holiday has passed? Do I keep the product visible or make the product hidden?

  • Is it worth making holiday products given how many are already in the MP? Yes. Look for a niche that isn't as greatly saturated. If you are religious, you could make holiday products that tilt towards religious aspects of a given holiday. You could make products for a particular age group. Or find a Halloween monster that hasn't been done to death (ha!) already. If you speak a language other than English you could make holiday products with text in that language (a really underserved market on Zazzle). All in all, find a fresh angle.

  • What do you do with products after the holiday is over? Nothing. Just leave them be. Hiding them doesn't benefit you and you'll miss out if you forget to unhide them in a timely fashion next year.

I am grateful for the depth and detail of your response! I appreciate you answered what to do with holiday products after the holiday passed because I was thinking to "hide" them all until next year. You have provided an abundance of useful information. Blessings and thank you!

Here is my feedback about designing for holidays:  Take a look at Zazzle's Holiday Guide: https://www.zazzle.com/creators/playbook/guides/holiday.      Use the Moments Planning Guide to know optimal time to design, publish, and promote your holiday items. https://community.zazzle.com/t5/creator-guides/moments-planning-guide/td-p/4243.      My holiday sales are not as brisk as my evergreen (throughout the year) sales, but I have enjoyed a bit of success with holiday party invitations and other holiday paper products like gift wrapping, gift tags and ornaments and some holiday home decor.  If you have a niche you design for (i.e. pets, babies, a hobby, etc), design holiday products for your niches.  If you can find an underserved niche (one that not too many designs are in the Zazzle Marketplace for, that is a good means of sales potential. Put your holiday designs on a variety of product types for which they are suited. You don't want to run the risk of having all your designs on one or two products only to find those products go out of stock or get discontinued during the holidays and you cannot make sales. Organize your holiday themes into collections and display those collections prominently in your store during the promotion period for that particular holiday (use the Moments Calendar for this). Once that holiday has passed, rearrange the order of your collections to move the next current holiday to the top and the holiday that has passed lower. Customers shop throughout the year for holiday items, so it is not necessary to hide them. You may want to setup a category on your store's landing page that is just for holidays. Promote your items on social media. Be sure to make cover photos for as many of them as you have time for. As always, use good titles, tags and descriptions with keywords that can be found by search engines. Good luck to you and I hope you have tremendous holiday sales!
