How is this Possible ?

How is it possible that an item was bought on 5/9 at 10 in the night, shipped, returned and credited (pink) by today 5/14?  It had to be printed and shipped to AR and shipped back. All in less than 5 days?  That must be a speed record. I can understand if it never went out and it turned pink in a short time. How is this possible?  Can we find out why sales are returned?  I never thought of it before but then this is a rare one. Usually they take a few weeks to be returned or are rejected due to payment problems on the same day. I guess there is always the chance that the buyer complained and did not have to return the item. Just wondering how long the average return time is. Anyone have a short return story they have wondered about?

I think not having to return items is more common than we know.

I doubt the item ever shipped.

But re-reading what @Emma wrote, I have my own question now.

For those of you who are not aware, in November 2021, we introduced the option for customers to cancel their orders from within their Zazzle account, at any time before shipping out.

 Around a month ago my dad ordered from my store without my knowing. When I noticed the sale and realized it was probably him I called him. For reasons that would be off-topic in this thread, he wanted to cancel and re-order. This was only about 4-5 hrs after he placed the order and it was already in the Making stage. He said he did have a Cancel button but it didn't let him cancel, it just gave him a message to the effect that the item is already being made so he couldn't. Since he couldn't find any way to cancel it himself and didn't want to call customer support, he just let the original order go through.

So now I am questioning, is it before the item ships out or before it enters the making stage for a customer to still be able to cancel on their own?

I had an order canceled also within 5 or 6 days before it was shipped. I think it has to do with whether the customer needs it to be shipped by a specific date. If shipping is delayed and they realize that the order won't arrive on time, they cancel it while it is still in the making, before it was shipped (therefore no need to return it).

I have had orders cancelled in minutes or hours of placement.

Only reasons I can think of:

(1) customer saw the shipping charges and changed their mind;
(2) customer saw another designer's product that they liked more;
(3) credit card fraud
