I Got Hit By a Tractor Trailer on the Highway

Windy

I was hit by a tractor trailer on the highway on Tuesday. Driver was not looking at the road and missed seeing the traffic backup while he was looking at a screen in his truck.

Don't drive in front of drivers who are looking at their screens.

Anyway, it's why I have been away from Zazzle for so many days now. I am not entirely sure why I am still alive.

Thank you. I walked away, have a small bruise, got shoulder xray which showed no trouble. Hubby in a back brace for 4 to 6 weeks or probably more like 8 to 12. So it's a challenging time and I appreciate your good wishes!

Yikes! Very dangerous. I am glad to hear you escaped without major physical damage although the experience sounds harrowing.

The crash was not the least bit scary because I did not see it coming and because the airbags deployed and I was unable to see what we might (and did hit) afterwards. It was either a four or five car pile up, only the truck was going 70 mph when it hit us so we scattered like pool balls, I guess, and there was no actual pile up. But after, when I am sitting on the highway waiting for accident cleanup for over an hour, that was harrowing, trying to figure out what happen next, how can I carry my meds, how can I get around, how can I get to the hospital....that was harrowing for sure.

Sorry to hear about your accident. It is probably a blessing when you don't see it coming. My husband and I were hit head on when diver coming opposite way fell asleep. I was on passenger side looking out the side window and didn't even know there was any traffic on the road. It took a long time for me to get back into the car, still have not gone to get drivers license photo updated, nearly 10 years. I keep it paid for but avoid traveling to get the photo. I hope you have it easier adjusting. I never realized how little your own driving can have to do with an accident. I think we are just not wired to think that way. I always worry about how I am driving never thinking about the other guy being a problem. To this day I always tell delivery people "Drive Safely"     I hope all goes smoothly for you and you mend well.

Like everyone else, we are really glad you and your husband are as good as you are. Get a lawyer and a counselor or a friend to talk to. The lawyer isn't to make money. It is to protect your interests on any settlement and to make arrangements for bills until things are settled. Talking here or elsewhere will be a release you will probably need. Will do some promoting and idea sharing of some of our new ideas in a few days to show how much we support you. Maybe it will distract you some.

@Windy ,

You both clearly had angels sitting on your shoulders.
So glad to hear that you are still with us in the land of the living.
Thank you for popping in to the forums and letting us know of your situation.
Take care and don't be in rush to get back to your routines! 💖💖

wow, that's the second most amazing survival story I read this week. - the number one is of a guy who survived eleven days on the Atlantic Ocean, with no food and no water

Anyway, I'm really glad you survived! 🙏

@Windy  Just read about your harrowing experience.  Perhaps I should not be, but I get angry when I read about horrible car wrecks and near-misses that involved someone distracted--especially by their phone.  A split second can change lives--for everyone involved and all those who care about them.  I can think of no reason to be using the phone while driving down a highway.  Either ignore the call for the time being or pull over and return/make the call.  Anyway,  we all are glad that you are okay and that you shared this with us.  A good reminder about distracted driving!

The things I have to say about distracted drivers are not fit to print, so I'll just leave it to your imagination. A few years ago, I was riding my bike and got hit by a distracted driver. But get this... the woman saw me, stopped, waved me on, and THEN she got distracted by some combination of her phone, her screaming baby in the back seat, and another driver who wasn't paying attention, so she apparently forgot that I was there and hit me anyway! Thankfully I walked away with only a few scrapes & bruises - and a wrecked bicycle - but the whole thing was a huge learning experience for me. As my better half always says, when you're out on the road you pretty much have to assume that every driver is actively trying to kill you, and behave accordingly. I used to think that was hyperbole, but not so much anymore!

OMG!  Getting hurt is bad, but I would be more forgiving of distractions beyond someone's control....for example the screaming baby. Or getting stung by a hornet trapped in the car. But the phone? No, that's not excusable. Drivers need to stay off those things! I am so glad you were not badly hurt by that accident!
