Are you in?

"Meta's Twitter competitor is off to a strong start.

Threads has drawn more than 23 million sign-ups since its launch Wednesday night, according to badges that show up on Instagram when people join the new app.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Threads drew 10 million sign-ups in seven hours. And while that's still far below the user bases of major social networks including Twitter and Instagram, it's a number that gives the new platform an immediate momentum."

I signed up. I managed to follow a few people and create my first post. Time will tell how useful it is going to be.

How can you post your product there?

Fantastic!  There goes another trademarked word I'd better not use in the titles/descriptions/tags.

why would you use 'threads' as a tag?

@CreativeLeahG , Hi, thanks for the question.  So, why would I use 'threads' as a tag?  Suppose I decide to create a store for the sewing niche, I make some graphic designs inspired by this public domain picture below and put them on the pillows, stickers, mugs, etc.

More and more words we use in our day to day life, LITERALLY, have become trademarked/copyrighted, so my original post was actually just making a general comment about that.

Meta doesn't own every instance of the word 'threads' just like Apple doesn't own the word 'apple'

I actually have a knitting/sewing store, and don't see any problem with "thread" which is what people are going to look for rather than "threads". Thread is actually a singular and a plural word in that context. But I agree that trademarked common words is seriously ridiculous. Even if "Threads" only applies to a Twitter knockoff online publisher, er, I mean platform *eyeroll*, I'm sure they won't hesitate to start suing people who use the word "threads" in other context.

It's only available via phone and I hate doing media via phone

It's my understanding that will be changing soon. I don't do any social media from my phone.

All the news items I've seen so far have said no plans anytime soon, but here's hoping.

Highly doubt Elon is going to just sit back and watch this happen without hitting back or reacting to this move.... in fact he's already threatening to sue Meta. Also: there's no direct messaging.... that's kind of odd

@igiftcenter

They say they want Threads to be for open public conversations, not private inbox communications.

Plus they've practically promised to sell everything about you if you sign up. Not even hiding it anymore.

NOT going in on this one. It won't have the thing that made twitter eventually great- and all the stuff that made twitter eventually useless and boring for me. Meta is censor-happy as a company and a twitter-like platform from them seems only troublesome.
