Photo Sculpture Pins??

What are these?

I had clicked into this page - https://www.zazzle.com/c/photo+statuettes - from the Site Map while updating my OOS list and was just, huh? Never encountered this product before and there's only about 300 of them, though if you change the C in the URL to an S, then there's about 800. Even so, seems like remarkably few for any item.

But, what are they? They look like actual 3D pins

but there's only one preview image and I couldn't find any that had a custom cover or video to give more clues.

Read several reviews on various pins, this review stood out:

I tried to paste the Image connected to this review but it would not upload or paste, the image shows a square white background. Same for each one I checked. So it appears that what you upload is created  at 2x3 inches, including the background, and does not conform to the shape or outline of the image. The cat you see appears to be a 3d type of image. If you look at the upper left small image of the cat you can see what it will be when purchased, with a rectangular background, not the outline of the cat.

also, it seems like these pins have been around since before 2016…

too bad that the product is not more clearly stated as a rectangle not an image outline that the reviewer stated that they were hoping to get.

I scrolled through 15 "pages" of reviews and all were for photo sculptures or ornamanets, and a few magnets. Couldn't find one for a pin. I think given the nature of the product category - photo sculptures - that these are cut-out like the kiss-cut stickers, the 2x3 is just the size of the design area. If your background isn't transparent, it's going to manufacture as that 2x3 shape instead of the outline of your object.  I just put this clover on (transparent background, drop-shadow added by me in Photoshop) and it looks like an actual 3D pin. After more thinking on this, I think it's very unrealistic that the pins are actually 3D. But depending on the design uploaded, the previews are very misleading. Combined with the description calling it a photo sculpture cast in acrylic ... it's confusing.

Anyways, I'd never come across these before and was surprised at how few results there are for them. But now that I've found them, I think the description and preview images need some love to better explain/show what you're actually getting.

The review I mentioned was for a photosculpture pin. The person who reviewed it was expecting the outline of the image, not a rectangle, and was clearly disappointed.

The sculptures appear to have been Discontinued but many of the reviews did mention it not being cut-out as expected. I chalk most of that up to user-error though.

I forgot about those! It's one of the first things I ever sold on Zazzle. Mine was a blue butterfly. I hadn't thought about it in years until this post (because it sold once and never again).
