I'm working on cover photos for my wedding invitations, and I'm having trouble with Downloading Product Mockups for the real gold foil invitations. They look way too washed out. Does anybody have any tips and tricks for getting better images to make cover photos for the foil invitations? Thank you.

only thing I can think of is use the colors in the preview, to make you own gradient and then cut the shap out and replace... that's what I think I will try....however I think the azz previews are fine, and I would rather tackle something simpler myself!! 🙂

I didn't make many foil cards so I haven't tackled the problem yet, but I think if I were to do it, I'd probably want to overlay my own foil pattern in photoshop to make it look more real.
If you download the faded image and then isolate the gold foil areas you could add a foil pattern to only those areas. If it's too difficult to isolate only the gold areas on the card, I'd make a temporary version of the card (to be deleted after downloading the product mockup) with only the top foil layer visible. Then you can add your pattern to the foil areas, delete the background and overlay this over the original version of the card. Does that make any sense?? I'm terrible at explaining things; I'd make an awful teacher..lol.

Yes, your explanation does make sense. I think it wouldn't really be practical for all the mockups I need to do. But thank you for the suggestion.

I totally get it. That's why my cover photos are taking so long ........ I have to make life difficult for myself.....lol.
I tried the burn tool and it still doesn't look enough like foil to satisfy my perfectionist soul. Looks like I'll be creating cover photos well into next year. Good thing I don't have many foil cards.😋😋😋

The best solution I have for now is to download the 3rd product image, not artwork (for some reason, it doesn't download the artwork with the gold elements included, I am not sure if that happens just for me). All my mockups are with smart object masks so it is very easy to navigate the mockup. When I place the image, I go over the gold elements with the Burn Tool. It makes them darker and they pop nicely.
That is the quickest way I have found for now as adding a mask would take much longer and if you need to export many mockups it will get on your nerves.

Thank you very much! I'll try this with the Burn Tool. Yes, masking would be brutal!

I think the way Zazzle presents foiled cards is horrendous. The grey marbled background mockup that Zazzle provides makes the whole card looking dull. The text is barely readable and no sparkling effect. The silver is the worse. What I discovered was if I download the mockup and mask it to isolate the card, then place it into my mockup, it looks so much better. I don't do any editing at all. Take a peek at my store and see some of my foiled cards, I think the foil looks just fine. My designs are very minimal, but the foil still shows pretty well. It would look even better if the foiling was on a larger surface. I don't have a lot of examples yet, I've been on Zazzle for only two months, but I do have a few.

What I just did was this: Went to Creative Fabrica, downloaded this gold gradient set file https://www.creativefabrica.com/product/photoshop-gold-gradient-bundle-set-grd/
I had downloaded the Zazzle artwork images, mainly the front and the front foil page. You can use the front foil page as a separate layer in either Photoshop or I use Photopea.com. I uploaded the gradient set to Photopea, by just going to the gradient tool, and up at the top, click the gradient bar, then click the down facing triangle. Clicked on Open.GRD to bring in my gradient set.
Now that the black, front foil layer is on the top layer you can easily highlight it. Using the gradient tool with one of the gradients I picked, just pass over your highlighted area. You'll get a flat metallic gradient that will simulate gold foil without a whole lot of fussing with it.
I hope this helps. I only know Photopea and how it works for me. But basically it's just getting the two layers from Zazzle, and then laying them in your software program as two layers, and having a gold metallic gradient. You'll only need to know how to use the gradient tools in your program.

I'm editing to note that it needed a darker border, so I went and did a stroke, inside of about 3px, and darkened the golden color a bit so that it gives a raised look to it.

I don't do much foil myself, but from memory don't they all have videos? What I'd try is to click on the video preview and try and grab a screenshot of when it looks the best.
