I’d like to bring up something that could really enhance the customer and designer experience on this platform. Making it easier for customers to request custom design help directly from us would be a great step forward.

I often receive messages from customers asking for personalized tweaks or full custom layouts, and I’ve noticed something important. When I take the time to work with them, they come back. Custom design has led to loyal, repeat customers who trust my shop and return for future occasions.

That kind of relationship is valuable for both designers and Zazzle. But currently there’s no real structure in place to support it. Everything happens behind the scenes, and it’s not always easy or clear for customers to know they can ask for help.

Imagine how helpful it would be if there were a built-in option for customers to request a customization. Something as simple as a button that alerts the designer and opens up a way to respond with terms or a quote. This could even lead to a dedicated revenue stream for both the designer and the platform.

If other designers have had similar experiences, I’d love to hear how you’ve handled it. And to the Zazzle team, this seems like a missed opportunity to make your platform even more collaborative and customer-friendly.

Every product I post has a line suggesting how to contact me if they need assistance -- and they do and I help them.

Thank you for sharing that. That’s such a great way to build trust and keep customers coming back.

I was wondering, how do you handle compensation when you do custom design work for them? Do you charge separately outside of Zazzle, or do you build it into the product pricing somehow?

Would love to hear how you approach it.

I am basically not in the wedding market, so when I’m asked for assistance it is rarely anything terribly difficult so I do not charge them.  I got paid for a lifetime of good deeds a few years ago when i worked with someone from a country club who wanted a modification of one of my products for her 9-hole golf league.  At the end of the project it came in as a referral and i earned $1000 in a day.  On the other side, i did something simple for someone the other day and earned $.80 — life is like that.  And both people were happy.  I also come out of a service-based industry — so it is kind of drilled into me.
