For the ones of you who have a Photoshop subscription plan, here's a YT video I just stumbled over that gives useful info and tips (included links) to important things to know about Adobe's new Generative Fill. Mainly:
- Info about how Adobe offers the tool - basically you get a number of "credits" to use the tool, depending on your plan (the cheapest photographer plan gives you 100 free credits per month)
- Info about a workaround to the 1024x1024 pixel resolution limit of these fills to get crispy results, included a free plugin that handles it
- Other useful info
There are a lot of videos of great Photoshop experts handling it (e.g. PixImperfect), but this one gives you the two most important topics in a quick and understandable way.
BTW: You can use it for commercial purposes and Adobe grants a safe use by using only its own stock to generate the content. I didn't check all the fine print yet but didn't see any asterisks in Adobe's short resume. Apparently, the credit system works starting from November, and until then you have unlimited free use.
Here's the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjQdYdo-gZI
Happy playing around 🙂

Good video. It makes sense that the number of credits given up front each month corresponds to the subscription fee you were already paying (the more you already paid, the more credits you get up front).
I have a sort-of workaround for how to make your photo into a painting (without getting his plugin). Make a selection in part of the canvas and then feather the heck out of it, like 200-400 pixel feather. Then in the generative fill box put in your desired painting style such as watercolor painting. (But I'm going to get his plugin anyway).
I also love Piximperfect. He's one of my favorites. In addition to giving good advice, he gives this good advice at a very high talking speed. I appreciate that so much. Many people have good advice on youtube but they talk so slowly that it is painful to listen to. Piximperfect talks faster than any other youtuber that I've heard but not so fast that you can't understand him. His speech speed is absolutely perfect for my ears (your mileage may vary).

I agree. To me, their pricing/crediting is pretty fair, also considering that they offer a safe environment with own stock. One more thing I must check is how "private" your works are if you use the service. I only work on my PC, don't use the cloud at all, and I don't want my works to be openly accessible. Considering that Adobe addresses professionals, I guess I don't have to worry about it.
I still prefer to work on my own and will only use the functionality to get rid of unwanted stuff or to enlarge perhaps an area and get a basic result I can then work on. Played around with adding animals and such and I'm not truly satisfied - I get way better results the old-fashioned way of compositing.
Yes, PiXimperfect is one of my favorites. he has the right speed, talks clearly and explains well. I'm pretty new to Photoshop but used Corel professionally for 3 decades, so I only need quick advice on specific tasks that work differently in PS. I must say, I'm still struggling with it. The software is powerful, but it is way less intuitive and easy to handle than Corel Photopaint, plus it has bugs, and I miss quite a few great Corel features. Basically I only switched because I can use just PS for 10 bucks per month, paid monthly. Corel doesn't offer just Photopaint at low monthly cost and in Italy the full version is over 700€. To replace Corel Draw I switched to Inkscape, and I must say, I felt instantly at home, plus I can open my Draw X3 files.

I installed the plugin linked in that youtube video. It works exactly as shown. And it's free. Highly recommend.
