Foil flat 5" x 7"cards not allowing text size changes on "front foil" layer

Hi Zazzle, I've been trying to create a new foil invitation, unfortunately, every time I add a text line in the "front foil layer" the text gets by default in size 10 and is not letting me change it to any smaller size in any font I tried. I set a different text size, press enter and it immediately gets back to size 10 on its own.

I already clean my cookies, log out and log in with no change.

I have the same exact invitation in the regular 5" x 7" flat card and tried copying and pasting the design with the same result, all the newly copied text is displayed in size 10 and not allowing me to reduce the size.

The front layer is working correctly though, displaying the text in any size I like, even copying and pasting from other cards. Only the "font foil layer" seems to be having problems.

As a reference, I'm trying to add the "Bell Centennial" font in size 7, but as I said is not working even with other fonts, while the "font layer" is showing "Bell Centennial" in size 7 correctly.

I'm thinking maybe this is a feature, not a bug. If you use the line element, it won't let you set the thickness lower than one on the foil layer, but you can on the print layer. Maybe the foil print process can't create lines smaller than a certain thickness.

Oh, I see what you mean. I hope this is not the case as Bell Centennial in size 10 is pretty big for the design I was going for. The design looked great in regular cards too bad that perhaps is not possible to make it in foil. I guess I have to make adjustments if this is the case.

Thanks, Cat.

Hi @GabrielaG

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue. Can you provide links to the product and/or PID so that we can take a look, please? 🙂

Hi Roberta, thanks for taking a look into it. Sorry,  I haven't posted it for sale, so this is the only link available: https://www.zazzle.com/z/0hqydw64

The text in black is the text as it should be, displayed on the "front layer". The text in gold is the exact same text from the front layer copied to the foil layer.

The foil printing process is quite complex, so you may be hitting the minimum font size for that particular product.

Thank you, Scott and Cat. I should have thought about that. Thanks to both of you for explaining!

I figured out that 10 points is the minimum font size for foil cards, regardless of how big/small each individual typeface is in real life. I had that happen to me awhile ago while converting New Year invites to foil. Kind of messed up my design but I reworked it so it was acceptable & was able to publish a foil version. (Still like the non-foil layout better with the smaller body copy – lol)

Thank you, Marcia. I'm in the process of adjusting the invitation so I can have it in foil as well, but like you, I kind of like the look of the non-foil layout better with a smaller font 😉
