Layers vs Template Object Product Page Label Selection/Focus - Takes Two Clicks to Sync

I like to name my template objects (Page Label), e.g., Front - Line 1, and Front Line 2 etc, but I keep editing the wrong Page Label because there is a disconnect between the layer selection and the edit panel for the template object.

Steps to Reproduce:

I have text in the layers

Happy

Birthday

1 - Select "Happy" in the Layers panel

In the right panel. change "Happy" text layer to a Template Object. and rename it to Front - Line 1.

2 - I click on "Birthday" text layer on the left and it shows as selected

BUT

on the right side, the Template object area is still displaying the "Happy" text layer Template object info.

I have to click on the "Birthday" layer a second time to get the Template object info on the right to change.

(but I keep forgetting and this messes up all my labels)

expected behavior:

I think it should only take one click on the layer on the left to get the associated Template object info on the right to appear.

thanks

This drives me crazy too! If you click on the layer in the design tool rather than in the list of layers on the left, I think it works right (i.e. you only have to click once to change layers.) The only problem with doing it that way (other than the fact that if you might have trouble clicking on the layer in the design tool if there's another layer covering up part of it) is that you have to be really careful not to move your mouse at all when you click on the layer or you risk moving it slightly and then it gets misaligned.

Sounds like when you first click your layer, you are leaving the text box area and the program "saves" that info upon the "click to exit"  The needed second click is the one that actually selects the next layer you want to edit.  Sounds like the program is highlighting the layer on the "exit click" giving the false impression that that layer has actually been selected... when in the program, it hasn't...

I think I've noticed this too, but did not think too much about it...  It would make the work flow easier if the "exit click" actually did select the layer, or at least did not highlight the layer giving the false impression that it has been selected...

@Cat  @PacifierCity thank you for commenting and adding your observations, which I agree with.

I hope this workflow will become more straightforward : ) I just had to replace multiple products because of labeling weirdness - I know I don't have to be so fussy but I want the edit experience to be as easy as possible for customers and I'm sure Zazzle doesn't want to be bothered with so many product replacements.

This has always been frustrating to me, too, but I figured out that if you click the actual text, instead of the layers on the left, it doesn't jump back to the previous one.

Thanks @Connie. I think the reason that doesn't seem intuitive to me while I'm editing is that I'm making these changes after I'm done designing on the artboard. I'm just thinking of these as objects at the point where I'm making them templated and labeling them.
