Pillowcase design missing from second pillowcase after Product Merchandising view changed to single

I created a set of pillow cases with designs on both pillowcases in the pair. When I then changed the Product Merchandising options to display a single pillowcase, the design areas on the second pillowcase show as blank when switched to the Pair of Pillowcases view. I would prefer to display only a single pillowcase in the merchandising view so the customer knows they can order just one.

Is this a display bug, or would the customer actually receive one blank and one printed pillowcase?

ETA: I just checked the design tool in the back end and the images are missing from the second pillowcase. I wouldn't expect just changing the merchandising options view would delete designs from the second pillowcase. Please advise.

Apologies that this went unanswered until now.

I tried this out myself and I created a design for both pillows. I then posted for sale and changed the Product Merchandising view to one only. I was still able to see the design on both pillows when selecting the pair option.

I would recommend double checking that both pillow cases are designed before posting for sale. I made this mistake on my first attempt and then realized after.

I did design both sides of both pillowcases. I believe the problem happened when I changed the Set Size to a single pillowcase under the marketing options before posting the product for sale. It deleted the designs from the design areas on the second pillowcase. I've been trying to test if I change it after posting for sale, but changes are lagging - the product I tested is still showing the pair as default after I changed it to single.

Not sure if it's related, but I also noticed recently that when I set a hidden product to public, it doesn't show up in the public view right away. That has led me to change my workflow. I used to hide products until I was ready to publish an entire collection, but now I've deleted my hidden products after republishing them as public so they'll show up right away, and now try to remember to publish them as public from the start.
