are we able to change our settings so secondary content can't be added?

some of my designs are selling and I receive $0.00 royalty because secondary content was added, so can I change my settings so that secondary content cannot be added?

thank you

There's no way to prevent it - but I don't think that's what happened in your case... if secondary content is added there is a ding to your royalty - but it's a tiny percentage .3% I think... unless the person added a whole ton of it, it seems unlikely it could reduce your royalty to nothing.. There is some weird math that happens when there's a sale and someone adds a frame to a poster than can result in zero royalties though..  I still have a hard time wrapping my head around how this happens..

hmm I wonder what happened then? it was a total of 13 items, all customized and I did not receive a royalty for 8 of the items, so is this something where we have to disable customization? none of them were framed posters

You recently sold 2 customized copy(s) of your product,

Royalty: $0.00

Very curious (and somewhat disconcerting) but I don't think secondary content could be to blame. The way it's calculated, the maximum ding your royalty could take for secondary content would be 25% of your royalty. Zazzle Royalty and Referral Percentages – Zazzle Help Center

BUT, (and this is a pretty big but) the program really never got beyond backgrounds in terms of marketplace designs. Most of the secondary content is only available through the Create tool - where users start from scratch, not through the design tool where they start from a designer template. Zazzle was all gung-ho on the program back in 2019, but then the pandemic hit and they basically dropped it and never picked it up again.

Anyway, as far as I know, the only secondary content a customer can add to your design is backgrounds. I don't think those icons count as secondary content - I think those are provided by Zazzle, not by other designers. And since users can only add one background, the most you could lose would be 1.96% of your royalty (not 1.96% of the purchase price, it's a percentage of your royalty - so it's usually a penny or two at most.)

Anyhow, whatever happened, it is definitely disconcerting - if you could post more details on your other thread maybe we could take a better guess at what happened.

I guess you could stop people if you totally disabled their ability to access the design tool... I wonder if your person had some sort of BOGO coupon? That still doesn't sound quite right, because it's not an even number... I would think the poster scenario could happen any time there's a similar situation - where they buy an add on to something that is really on sale.

I've noticed sometimes that I'll get 2 sales of the same product, say an invitation, and one is showing the correct royalty, and the other has $0. I assumed that I didn't actually get 2 sales, but the customer added something onto the first sale. So I only got one order, but it shows double when they add something. (Is that even possible? LOL)
