Interested in becoming a creator, but I'm on the fence. I'd LOVE to hear from other creators on:
What's the Best and Worst Part About Selling on Zazzle?

Best- Zazzle has the best design tool of any POD by a very wide margin. It also makes adding template text and photos easy. Most other PODs don't even make it possible and no others make it so easy.
Worst- The competition is fierce and highly skilled. Many are professional graphic designers. I am a little fish in a big pond. The way I compete is by going deep into niches and constantly working on my skills through online courses.

Probably what's best or worst about working on Zazzle is highly individual. What's best in my life is the fact that I can work when I feel like it, not when forced to or when I don't have the time. There is no worst part because that would depend on expectations. If a person expects to make a lot of money or to not put in the time, they're likely to be disappointed. The hobbyist can be happy with a modicum of work; the driven person may not be so happy because success is far from immediate.
The worst part for me was mainly at the beginning when it didn't dawn on me properly that I had to do things Zazzle's way. They have no obligation whatsoever to do things my way. Next to that and somewhat related is having to do my own promotion in order to increase sales. I dislike social media, which is the main platform for self-promotion.

Best - You can make a ton of money if you know what you are doing. There are people on these forums as well as online to give you advice. Zazzle does have Help guides for how to position your products with the best title, descriptions and tags, templates and more.
Worst - If you are a whiner or one of the "glass half empty" people this may not be for you. You will be miserable and disappointed a lot. It is hard to do self promotion and earn referral income. And it takes years to really earn the income the Gold and Platinum creators do on a regular basis.
Having said these things, it can feel very rewarding to earn enough to pay one of your bills or buy yourself a computer with the money you earn through Zazzle. 😊

Barbara is spot on. They run their business how they see fit and if things change so does your business. If they decide a product type does not bring in the income, or in the postage stamps deletions, not feasible to sell any longer, ZIP your products are gone.

What are your expectations of Zazzle?
This would be a good place to start.
Meanwhile have a read of this:
Best
- It is open to everyone ..... it discriminates against no one.
- Being the leading POD in the world, it gets great visibility.
- Best opportunity to make big money of all the PODS (IMO).
- Advanced design tools, second to none.
- More customizable products than any other POD in the world
- 100% customer guarantee.
- Competitive prices
- Great support team
- Great supportive forum members
Worst
- It can be buggy. We learn to very patient knowing that bugs will be fixed, some sooner, others later. It is part and parcel of a POD updating to meet growing needs of the consumer and better accessibility etc.
- Some features creators would like to opt out of, they are unable to do so. This has been a point of contention. Items such as 'chat' whereby customers can message us. Not every creator welcomes this initiative, though it is in line with how other PODS operate.
- We are at risk of having our designs stolen. They may appear on Amazon and other places and there is little other than issuing take-down notices we can do to prevent it happening. We can add a prominent watermark but doing so is known to hinder sales. This is likely an issue across all PODS .

Adding to the Best things already listed:
You can set your mark-up individually on a per listing basis. Unlike some other PODs where you can only choose a mark-up per product category (say for all t-shirts, or all pillows, or all prints etc), on Zazzle you can set it to what you want for each individual product published. So you could have 30 iPhoneXSupremeAXM10Superduper phone cases with different designs, and you could set a different mark-up ("royalty") for each and every one of them if you wanted to.
Adding to the Worst things already listed:
Customer returns/refunds come out of your earnings and there is no time limit on them. Sales "clear" for payment to you 30 days after ordered, but customers can still return/refund at any time so it's possible to get docked on earnings months after the sale. And because of the limited info we see in our earnings report, it can be really really difficult to pinpoint what was cancelled ("turned pink") when. All you can see at a glance is that your total earnings went down for some reason; you have to do some digging to figure out why.

Moderators, can you please comment on the time factor of customer returns / refunds? Having zero time limit for cancellations is incredibly unfair. I didn't realize there was not a time limit at all.

The official return policy is here: https://www.zazzle.com/returns
But they will make exceptions outside of those time limits on a case-by-case basis. It may not happen a lot but it can and does happen. I once had a $20 referral I earned on Save-the-Dates go pink 8 months later.

That is just wrong. I will look over that policy thoroughly. Thank you.

Like I said, I don't think long-term returns happen often but I've seen enough comments in the forums over the years to know they can and do happen. Here's a post from August where someone said they had an order turn pink after two years. 😮
I am superstitious about counting my chickens before they hatch so when I get a nice order I am holding my breath until the 30 days have passed and it moves to Cleared/Current Available Balance. Even then some angst remains because I know it's still not 100% guaranteed, I could still end up losing the sale. Chances are slim but there's still a chance, thus why for me it's the biggest Negative.

I understand your point. I still believe that is wrong. After the 30 days, if a sale is cancelled, then Zazzle should absorb that loss, IMO, not the designers.

I hate not having information on returns or sales cancellations, I need to know and not waste time figuring out what was returned and getting upset.

I would look into whether any particular POD you want to work with is losing or gaining market share vs. the other PODS. What you learn may determine whether you see a particular POD as more of a hobby or more of a job.
I also do Postcrossing!

The best part about selling on zazzle is the customization, no other POD beats that. I can't think of anything worst that is particular to Zazzle, the worst part of selling on any POD is getting sales, there's a lot of competition and unless you know how to promote your work and find your own customers, you can only expect to get occasional sales

The best part is I'm making money without really trying (but I've been around over a decade now), which is good because my carpal tunnel is getting pretty bad, so I have to spend less time designing. I get to design what I want rather than doing custom work for people who can't make up their minds. That 2 best things. I don't have a worst thing.

@chefcateringbiz Some years ago, I started developing carpal tunnel syndrome, so I bought myself a bowler's glove that kept my wrist straight. Then I went to one of those mice that work with a ball. What finally helped completely was buying myself a graphics tablet, which I've used ever since. Maybe this would help.
