Can someone please confirm this? Are uploaded SVG files compatible with the masking tool?

I've been trying to figure out a workaround to mask images with ornate shapes and block letters for months, and i just came across someone's design that made me audible question 'NO WAY.. HOW TF DID THEY DO THAT!?' (I'm alone at home. pup gave me a glare though)
I opened up the design, and low and behold, they're using .svg files to mask template images.
Does this work for everyone, just as the [extremely limited] shapes in 'ELEMENTS' do? Are there parameters around what is a maskable file and and what doesn't qualify, outside of file format (svg)?.
Also, is this new, or has it always been like this, and I just needed to ask someone? I'm sure i just missed the update. In all honesty, while this new Zazzle Community interface is more aesthetically pleasing and simple, it just doesn't feel nearly as welcoming as the old one.. I used to be quite active in the old community, but this new one just feels unapproachable, and a little too sterile. I feel like I'm missing everything though.

Can confirm, I've done it. I've used my own svg diamonds, hearts, hexagons and quatrefoils as masks. It's been around for maybe a year or two. I jumped on it the split second it was announced and so have many svg masked products. The parameters:
Must be single color- but if you are using it as a mask then that is irrelevant.
No border- if you want your masked image to have a border, you need to upload another larger version of the svg that will act as the border under the masked image. Go into the design tool of this design of mine and you'll see what I mean:

It works for me and has been avail for a while now.
Have you tried it with your own svg files and its not working for you?
There are some things that would make it not work, I think the first comment covers them. I'm trying to think what else?

yes. as long as you are uploading a plain svg format. You just cannot tile your own vector files.

Okay Zazzlers, I Have a question that hopefully some one can answer. First time uploading an .svg .I go to my layers panel. Nothing. The layer is blank. Yes it shows that it uploaded, could it be perhaps that I made it totally white? Does there have to be color, and I also viewed some body commenting on how you can even change the colors of the .svg file after uploading.
Thanks again for the basics of crash course SVG 101🤔

Make sure you only have 5 colors present in your file. Merge your objects into just a few. And save without any raster images in the file. It must be saved as a plain svg format.
