We used to be able to vary the shades of color on backgrounds. Can anyone tell me what happened to that capability, or where they moved it?

Not sure how it works on other devices, but on a PC you open the background tab, then choose the plus sign to open the custom color tool.

@PattiJ
Not sure if this is what you mean, so…this might work.
you can make a background gradient in whatever software you use, then upload it to your image folder, name it background 1 for example. Apply it as a background, select it from your image folder and place it on your product, increase using fit or fill.
Did you mean change the background color, or did you mean add gradient shades?
let me know if the solution I posted answers your question, or if you were just asking how to change a background color to a different shade.

Thanks. sorry for the delay in responding. i can't find anything here anymore. We used to have a drop down tab to select a variation for the color we choose, such as a color wheel. i guess that's gone now?

Filters option on the right hand panel might be what you are looking for. I know I can use the filters to change the look of my own background image files. I have not tried it with the proprietary background images.
I also do Postcrossing!

There is a work around. You can add text and vary the colour. Once you are happy with your colour choice delete the text. Your new colour is now available as a background colour.
