Hi. I used to create on just one side of a pillow or tote and leave the other side plain, with just the background color. I thought, maybe people would like it if they felt they were getting two items in one. But lately, I've been feeling differently, and now I copy one side and put it on the second side. But I just leave it when it pastes on the other side. I worry about what the items looks at a side view- where the two halves meet. Should I just be pasting one side to the other side? Or, once I paste the design to the second side, should I do a horizontal flip on the 2nd side? If I did that, when viewing the seam, wouldn't it look as if the design was continuous when looking at the side seems? Thanks.

I can't claim to be any kind of an expert, but I don't think, in the case of a pillow, it really matters if the design is continuous from one side the other. I just copy the design on the front to the back. I don't flip it. I have tried making the design on the back to a different scale for a different look. But so far, haven't sold any designed that way.
As far as a pillow that has the design on one side and a solid color on the other, in my case at least, they don't sell near as well as a pillow with the same design on both sides. I have both one sided and two sided pillows with the same design. The pillow with the design on both sides sells. The one that has a design on one side and a solid color on the other side just don't. What will sell sometimes two pillows, one with a design on both sides and a matching pillow with a solid color on both sides.
Please don't take my answer as the only one. I am sure other people have different experiences.

Matching pillows- one designed and one solid. That sounds great. Thanks. And thanks for answering my question.

Our pillows (and many other products) in Animal Parade have both sides, front and back -- heads and tails -- so you can see the animals coming and going.

When I use the same design on the backside, I flip it horizontally. This results in a pretty seamless transition at the sides (depending on how accurate the cut & seam is) and gives you the choice to show the face that looks best depending on where the pillow is placed (e.g. left or right side of the couch with the design always directed towards the center). When the design is flipped, text elements placed on the sides or corners need to be respectively adjusted on the backside.
