Help! Can't make SVG files template images.

I can't turn my SVG files into templatable images.
Is this a new limitation, or has this always been the case?

@WHS_Designs To my knowledge this has always been like that. At first I was excited when I realized that you can change the colors on those files but because you can't turn them into template items I'm using them sparingly in my designs.
