Here we are in Spring! I hope everyone has done well over Christmas. Easter approaches and hopefully we made it through the post Christmas slump....
I just want to ask if anyone hides their Halloween and Christmas stuff during the summer. I had a surprise because I made a sale of Halloween invitations in January. But, I am also aware that these are being decommissioned by zazzle for lack of views when they are out of season.
And, can hiding out-of-season items affect your zRating?
It also bugs me that I made Halloween Mugs, RSVP cards, and many matching products but Zazzle eventually hides them for me because they don't attract as many views as the corresponding invitations - which sold.
Sorry it wasn't just one question.

I never hide any of my off-season items. Many people buy seasonal items all year round, especially when on sale. There are many year-long Christmas shoppers that purchase holiday gifts and then stash them away for later. Yes, I know it takes extra time and effort to refresh your items to keep them being shown in the marketplace, but I believe it's worth it. A customer may see these items and make a note to come back at a future date to purchase them. So, you never know! As far as Z Rank goes, I don't think anyone knows what its magic formula is. Best of luck to you!

Should you hide out of season products... no. Leave them be. If you were to hide them you wouldn't make a Halloween sale in January. Any sale is a good sale!! Zazzle has told us before, it's rare a customer will come to your store and browse. And besides, why make more work for yourself later on.
Three months before the holiday, revisit those products to make sure your title and tags are the best they can be.

Thank you @LMGildersleeve and @northwestphotos I shall keep them up. Yes, I also find zRank a mystery. I think in my case sharing consistently helps...

Exactly what zRank measures has never been clear. Despite the fact someone at beginning had to tell someone in IT what ideal parameters Zazzle zRank ought to measure, Z isn't telling. In fact, I think they deny knowing.
I do usually put specific holiday out-of-season products (like st patricks or merry christmas) on "direct only" so if they are advertised on PInterest or X or whatever, they can still be purchased. But with specific Christmas (like photo Merry Christmas), I don't shift them to direct-only until Valentines, in case of after-Christmas shoppers. So if you advertise anywhere, hiding is not a good idea. But I'm selective: maybe putting specific "happy halloween" greeting cards on direct-only until August when I make them public again, because buying is more likely then; but if, let's say, I had Halloween wedding designs or Save the Date or a general Halloween-Goth throw pillow design, I'd leave those public because they can be bought anytime. Frankly, I've never sold a Halloween card in April-- though I could because they are posted on X, Pinterest and other social media and buyable from there. (which would give me commission.)
But putting things on direct-only has never neither hurt nor improved my zRank. The idea that reducing bulk of unsold products continues to float around as an alleged method of improving zRank, but that doesn't mean it's sure-fire. But definitely, if you've posted product outside of Z, you do not want to hide products because that removes them from visibility in the market. Choose either to stay public or selective direct-only (if you've posted them elsewhere outside of Z) Everybody choose their own method.

I can confidently say that the number of unique items sold compared to total items available impacts zRank. Hidden products aren't counted so hiding seasonal items that haven't sold before could raise you zRank temporarily. But are you hiding 50 out of 500 or 50 out of 5,000? That's a big mathematical difference, obviously the more products you have listed the harder it will be to achieve & maintain a high % of sold-to-unsold. No way of knowing what level of percent change triggers a rank change, I just know that it does and with a very small store like my alternate PB store, it's easy to see that cause & effect whereas with a typically large store it would be hard to relate a zRank change to any one specific thing.
* Not recommending hiding/unhiding, just wanted to note that sold-to-unsold is one of the factors that goes into zRank and Hidden items don't count in that.

Not noticed if anyone has mentioned before, however, having a higher zRank is not necessarily helpful to garner sales. I can attest that having 9 and 10 ranked stores doesn't mean your products gets any more sales than a 5 or 6 rank for example.
Focus on getting sales not not a zRank number would be my advice... for what it's worth.
