How to make sure affiliates can pin your Show Me forum posts / replies on Pinterest

Pinterest hates shortened links. For that reason many affiliates won't pin products from the Show Me forum that use them. So make sure you use ordinary links and not shortened ones when you post in the Show Me forum.

Here's how:

Click the ... button at top right of your reply to see the html button. Click it and in the dialog box that opens, paste what you copied.

I hope that helps 🙂

Pinterest itself gives me shortened links if I use the share buttons on the Pinterest site and don't remember to take an address straight from the web address bar. Irony!

I also do Postcrossing!

I am probably missing something major, but I don't understand the benefit to sharing something directly from the Show Me forum instead of clicking the link in the post to the product and sharing from the product page.

I used the 'What's the last thing you sold?" thread as a test since that seems to have the most replies so far. First, from within the original thread-starter post, I clicked the Share button and then selected Pinterest from the options. I got 94 images to choose from. I selected the image of the pillow from that post, selected a board, and that was it. This is what the pin looks like:

I thought, cool, the text of the post becomes the pin description instead of Zazzle's default product description. That could be super useful.

But then I pinned some other posts from the thread the same way, using the Share button inside the reply.  And except for the image I had to manually select, they're exactly the same as the first post pin. The description is always the text from the thread-starter post so you get a cat keychain or t-shirt or whatever product with a description about a gray teal throw pillow.

And if you click the link in the pin, it always goes to the first thread-starter post. So even if a viewer doesn't notice that the pin description doesn't match the pin image and they click it, they are taken to the beginning of a thread on a discussion forum. If they are still willing to run with it, they have to scroll around the thread to find the reply with the image that matches the pin they clicked on. And then once they've found it, they still need to click the link in that post to get to the actual product page. Also, since the html code copied from the product page to the forum post contains the members RF#, if a viewer who clicked on your pin and followed it to the forum thread clicks on another product in the thread that caught their eye before finding yours of the image you pinned, they'll pick up that other person's referral cookie first.

So again, I must be missing something big because as is, I am not seeing how using the Share button from inside a Show Me post benefits anyone.

My fault, I should be more careful of word selection when I post late at night! I was talking about affiliates pinning the content of posts / replies - the products that people share.

Of course, I meant the content of your posts / replies ie the products or collections that you share.

My bad 😳
