some of you probably already know this but for those who don't...
When you want to reply to a specific person in a thread topic, just type the @ sign and choose from the drop down list of people in the conversation.
I also think you can tag anyone with the @tag like this... @Barbara now Colorwash has been tagged in this thread
Hope this helps!

To Reply to someone, use the Reply button inside their comment box. To add a general comment, use the Post Reply button at the bottom of the topic page.
In your settings (Subscriptions & Notifications --> Notification Settings) you can choose to be notified when someone Mentions you but oddly enough, I see no option that notifies you when someone makes a Reply to you.

I'm fairly sure I was notified of replies, but the forum is still such a mishmash in my head that I could be wrong.

Yeah, if you go into your Notification settings there is no way to opt to be notified of replies to your replies. And in looking at my notification feed, none of them are "so-and-so replied to you" - they're all just Mentions and Kudos. If you're the thread-starter/OP though, you can subscribe to that thread and thus be notified of new replies to it. I mean, you can subscribe to any thread whether you started it or not, but if you started it and want to be notified of all new comments to your thread, this the way. I think the default setting is to automatically subscribe you to content you've participated in. But that means you'll be notified of anything new added to the thread, not just replies to your own replies. So I un-checked that option straight-away.

ColsCreations, you say above in your posting, "To Reply to someone, use the Reply button inside their comment box. To add a general comment, use the Post Reply button at the bottom of the topic page."
For an example, In the Show Me Forum, do I go to the very last post and click Reply or do I go back to the very first post/person who started the thread and click REPLY inside their box? I have tried to use the POST REPLY that is at the bottom of page but it is grayed out and not active. I then just posted a reply in the last person's box and that, I know now, is NOT how to do it. But if I post in the box of the starter of the thread, then it would appear that I am out of order since it will seem I was the first person to respond instead of the last person. I am not explaining this very well. Also, Shellifitz above, mentions adding an"@" plus the name of the person you wish to address. When doing this, do I put them inside THAT person's box or inside mine? I am not clear on that.

If I reply using Option A (which I am), my response will show "in response to Shar-Ken" at the top, and for those using threaded view, my reply will be indented under yours making it visually obvious my comment is in response to yours. It's creating a sub-dialog inside the main one the OP started.
Option B is only grayed-out until you click in the text field to activate it. This option is not indented and does not show "in response to" anyone at top because it's sort of a given that it's a reply to the original post.
@nameX are "Mentions" and unrelated to how you reply in a thread. You can add them to a post to get a person's attention. User's will get a Notification that they're been mentioned in suchandsuch post. (This is the default but people can turn the option off.)

ColsCreation, So, I have clicked on the reply within your box where your reply to me was. I am not sure I know when I would/should choose threaded view (what is it exactly?) Anyway, I guess I am okay doing it in this manner. And I will use the reply at the bottom to just do a general reply when that is appropriate.Your "visual" helps to explain things clearly. Thank you AGAIN!
