Manually Choosing a Product Category vs the Zazzle Suggestion... How does that product fair in the..

Lets say I wanted to take a ... license plate and turn it into a High School Reunion invitation...

So I do and when I get to the Post Product for Sale page, under the Marketplace Department section, I utilize the ability to select my own and place it in invitations>graduation (or whatever the tree is.)

My question is how does doing that affect its product placement/visibility in the invitation category?

I get that my example is ... poor ... especially due to the cost of doing such a thing... but I needed an example...

But I'm really curious about how products that are designed for a different purpose than the obvious one, do with market placement and visibility.  Especially when one chooses their own category instead of the Z suggested one.  If anyone has any experience with these types of products, do they get seen? Do they sell?

Appreciate any experiences shared.

I have definitely done this... but I'm wracking my brain trying to remember with what... I seem to recall it was something that was defaulting to weddings that was definitely not a wedding item. I'll look to see if I can figure out what it was and how it seems to be doing.

Here's an extract bottle label I designed by using a sticker from Crafts & Party Supplies, and changing it to Office & School > Promotional Products & Small Business Supplies > Displays & Packaging. Not the best decision on my part, right? But it has been selling very well in spite of the in situ displays for stickers on envelopes.

@Barbara  - Thanks for sharing.  I went ahead and created a few things, I figure why not.  If I have an itch, I'll scratch it.  The thing that I noticed is that when I scroll down below the image to Similar Products or whatever that scroll is called... everything shown was of the original product type and not on theme.  Seems like it may be a bad omen... lol.  But it is good to know that you have had success.  I'm not going to give up yet... maybe I'll make another 20 or so of these things and send them into internet land and see what happens over the next few months...

Cheers,

I have created "Book Marks" from the small business card (overkill as minimum order is 100).

When you search "Book mark" the results show my different products that have been called "book marks"

The first suggested drill-down has two of my 5 "business card book marks" on the first page

Thanks for trying to alleviate my concerns about the quantity, however, the Mini size Profile Card (3x1") only come in boxes of 100. I don't know of any cards that come in set of 25. Even 25 is a bit of overkill for bookmarks unless they are used as handouts at a library, or for purchase for resale.

PC - Your link does take me to a card that offers only 25 per box. How did you find this/what search did you use? No where when I search in the Create area does this come up.
"Calling Card" does not pull up the 3x1.
"Business Card" pulls the 3x1, but in the 100 box

I wish Z would just put one "type" of listing per paper product - a card is a card, is a card ... no matter if it is a birthday, anniversery, get well, or any other

I totally agree with you. It's fine and dandy to set departments and categories for finished products, but for the "raw" materials? It's like calling this piece of wood a desk and the same piece of wood a chair. Not only doesn't it make sense, but it can be a nightmare finding what we need. I spend ungodly amounts of time trawling through departments looking at paper that's scattered all over the place.

@BKMuir

I first stumbled upon them because I was searching the MP for something.  A few designers had made something similar to what I was thinking and as I checked out there products I noticed that some were being sold in a quantity of 100 and some were in a quantity of 25.  I was curious as to why and I discovered the calling card.  I did not know that it existed either...

If you type "Calling card" into search with quotes, it will work.  With out quotes pulls up business cards and I can't remember if they are listed in there or not, but it seems your noting they are not.

So it was an accidental discovery... I just got lucky I guess...

THANK YOU for explaining about the QUOTE MARKS!!!👍 I was able to locate the 25 pack option.

Now if they would only have 5 or less available.

Curious about what might work well as bookmarks, I took a look, and all I found were rack cards, but again, the minimum is 25 and they seem a tad large for a bookmark. Aren't all the business cards a bit too small?

Quite a while ago, Zazzle sold bookmarks, but they didn't last all that long. It could have been because of the manufacturer, or it could have been because they didn't sell.

What about creating bookplates instead? They do sell, though not necessarily well. Children's bookplates seem the best. Anyway, that's been my own experience. The various stickers and labels are good for them.
