I’m using an IPad and pencil. I’ve worked out most things through trial and error but I can not find a way to copy and paste an uploaded image. Previously I pressed the screen, the pop up menu would appear and then I’d select my option from there. That no longer works for me.
I’ve read a fair bit here but can’t find a link to any comprehensive instructions on using the new tool. Most of my products still use the old tool so this is tool is still very new to me!
Thanks in advance.

@MOM Do you mean Alt + (Drag)? I thought that just made another copy within the current design, but I just checked it and it does indeed put a copy on the clipboard as well so you can paste it into another design! Who knew? Thanks for the tip!

I already highlighted this problem, with this new design center the ability to display the context menu on iPad has disappeared.
It’s definitely a blocking point for us, iPad users. I strongly hope they will fix this, because I can’t work without it !

Thanks for your reply.
I thought I was going crazy and I was missing something really obvious. It’s hard to believe they redesigned the tool and that they didn’t just include a copy and paste button.

@SuePerb To use „Dublicate“ doesn’t work? I never have designed on an iPad so excuse me if I’m totally off.

I’m not using a keyboard attached to my iPad and so I don’t have access to ALT.
I've somehow hit accept solution instead of reply. 🤦🏻♀️

I don't use an Apple iPad but a Windows-based laptop touchscreen. As far as I'm concerned, all the keyboard shortcuts being recommended for working in this new design tool are utterly useless. So, it's not just Apple users who are being negatively impacted.

Thanks for your reply. It’s a pity that we have to use the same design tool as the buyer. Personally I think the new design is pretty poor and not intuitive but I guess I’ll get used to it and find a work around 🤞

Have you tried control-C and control-V? Seems like I tried it before and couldn't make it work, but I just tried again and it worked perfectly. No clue what that means, maybe they fixed it? Of course, I'm on a Windows 11 PC. I have no idea if those keyboard shortcuts work on an iPad or not.
The other thing that works on a PC is to right click to bring up the menu you mentioned. If there's any other way to right click on an iPad you might try that.
But any way you slice it, I do miss the copy and paste menu options that we used to have.

Thanks for the ideas. I use a pen and screen without a keyboard. I have severely damaged hands due to autoimmune arthritis and a traditional keyboard is a nightmare. I am typing this using the keyboard on my screen with the pencil! I’ll get there in the end! Just been looking at accessibility functions and set some up but unfortunately these don’t work in the new editor either!
if you know how to remove solution to this thread I’d appreciate it. I pressed the button accidentally when scrolling 🤦🏻♀️

Ummm, @Cat ... I appreciate your suggestions--always do--but you're missing a salient point here: The iPad people and I are talking about working without physical keyboard access.

Well there you go! I didn't realize you couldn't get a keyboard feature on an iPad (not an Apple girl, obviously!) But if there's no keyboard, how do you type? I mean, can't you bring up a virtual keyboard like on a phone? Do the keyboard shortcuts not work on those? Just asking... obviously I have no clue here! 🤤

Speaking only for myself... i'm not Apple person either. I'm Windows-based. And, yes, you get a virtual keyboard--albeit I, for one, already had to get a third-party one to add-on because of changes WIN 11 made, but that's an entirely separate rant. Putting down one's stylus to use multiple fingers on a touchscreen to make keyboard shortcuts defeats a touchscreen's advantages. Therefore, I stand by my statement that, as far as I'm concerned, all the keyboard shortcuts being recommended for working in this new design tool are utterly useless. I never had to use a single one in the previous tool. Oh, I can, no doubt, long-term program the virtual keyboard I've got, but I shouldn't have to. I weighed in here to let the Apple people know it's not just iPad problem. (However, I do find it somewhat ironic that the Apple line of products is supposedly preferable to Windows-based products for artists and that the iPad users here are having problems.)
I've not weighed in elsewhere about the new design tool, preferring 'to go along, to get along' and let my plaster mask with its fake smile cover my gritted teeth. But I am not a fan.

I've been using my Samsung Tablet, and also various Samsung Smartphones that I've owned over the years (the type that you can write and draw on) for my designs, etc. For Samsung users we use the S-Pen (stylus pens) to draw, paint, and to write "directly" on the touchscreen whether for Samsung Tablets or our Samsung Smartphones (that have that capability to act like a tablet), and for the Apple users they use their pencil on their touchscreen of their iPad.
Not everyone has a separate "physical" keyboard or mouse for their tablets whether Samsung or Apple, and no, you cannot use the on-board digital keyboard for shortcuts whether on the tablet or smartphone, it doesn't work the same way as a separate physical keyboard and mouse for keyboard shortcuts, and you cannot select more than say one template field layer at a time to move layers or to group them within the design tool like you can with a PC keyboard and mouse (though I wish they could), can't copy and paste without pressing on the screen or, by choosing the Copy and Paste with the S-Pen that's under Edit in the top bar of the old design tool, or pointing and clicking or right-clicking like with a mouse, or to click and drag corners like you can with a mouse for cropping (but we can use our S-Pens or pencils for touching the screen and dragging corners for resizing or moving something around, etc.) even just with our fingers if you wanted to, without the need for a separate keyboard and mouse.
Note that these are the "same" things that were discussed via the forums a couple of years ago, when they started making "more" changes again to the design tool layout editor that weren't good (along with those awful thick pink lines we still have), and all of a sudden needing to have a "physical" keyboard and mouse like with a PC after that "update" change back then, in order to do certain functions within the Zazzle design tool editor, which you could no longer do via your tablet or smartphone if you did NOT have a separate "physical" keyboard and mouse.
Back then a lot of us designers wrote that that update negatively effected how we work designing within the design tool with our Samsung and Apple Tablets, and applicable Samsung Smartphones, since we did not have a separate "physical" keyboard and mouse! Then they finally "brought back" the ability to use the design tool layout editor "without" needing a separate keyboard and mouse while using our tablets or smartphones, so everything worked fine again!
But here we are once again..., telling designers all about "keyboard shortcuts" to use and this time we were given a "very long list of keyboard shortcuts" to look at and to try and remember while working within the New design tool layout. I do not understand why this has become an issue again. Whoever made this change with this New design tool layout (that you can currently check the box to enable, or uncheck it to keep the old design tool) is somehow unaware this same thing happend before, and there's so many comments via the forums about it from back then on this same topic from designer's who use and work with their touchscreen tablets, and smartphones (that have that write-on capability), and who do NOT have a physical keyboard and mouse. Please kindly fix this issue.
Was wondering, because I'm not quite sure how this new design tool layout affects customers - But are customers also going to be expected to use and remember this new long list of "keyboard shortcuts" in order to get around and all of the tiny icons and hidden things to find to click on to do anything in the New design tool layout, and to edit items and personalize them, and to then go through several pages to get to the item and checkout page? Can't see that happening. That would be way too frustrating. Plus, they'd need to be on a PC. For any designer's working on a PC and who wanted to use all of these keyboard shortcuts then that's another thing if they want to use them, but that sure is a very long list that was given out!
First was the terrible new TOS last April reducing our royalty earnings by about 50% on our designed items sold (from their "blank" items), and now this New design tool layout. This New design tool almost doesn't look like Zazzle anynore, and is instead starting to look similar to some other companies. Zazzle's old design tool was always great and a "standout" from the other POD sites over the years! Please let us keep the old design tool that we know and love, and that's worked fine (and that we still can currently use). Thank you

This sounds like a really frustrating situation - I think this is why I'm a dinosaur still using a desktop PC!
I did not mean for my comments to sound in any way flippant... like I was somehow dismissing anyone's concerns by telling you to just use the keyboard shortcuts. I'm so totally illiterate on those sorts of devices that I didn't realize that the virtual keyboard doesn't work the same way as a physical one does. Even with a mouse and keyboard, it took me several days to figure out how to copy/paste since they removed the menu options - so I just naively thought/hoped it might help in your situation too, but obviously not.
Anyhow, I totally agree that they need to make the design environment work for all different sorts of devices, and that sacrificing vital tools like the ability to copy/paste in the name of "decluttering" is not a workable solution! Here's hoping they get it sorted out soon!

Hi Cat, no it's ok.
I was just saying the different things about it vs. using a PC with a mouse and keyboard, and so that the mods can have someone look into it for all of us, especially since this same thing has happened before after one of their updates and so many of us (both Samsung and Apple users) were affected by it, and wrote about it back then and we all went round and round about not having the keyboard until finally it was corrected! Now it's happened again, so hoping they can fix it soon for all of us who use touchscreen smartphones and tablets, as mentioned. Mods can you please have tech support look into this issue? Thank you
