Other designs you might like

Is it just me or has the marketplace had another shake up?

Most of the designs under  'Other designs you might like' are all mine from my other stores (not complaining - just curious)

Seems strange though. Mixing up unrelated designs.

Noticed golf fanny pack having a cat paw print backpack/camo backpack, Thanksgiving tank top with christmas/wedding tank tops. Thanksgiving wrapping paper mixing with baby shower etc

Feels like I've been kicked out of the 'Other designs you might like' club and into my own 🤣😂

Anyone else noticed shenanigans?

Now it gets really interesting. I followed your doula stork mug and here's the scroll:

  1. 22 stork birth themed mugs, presumably not yours because there's so many and a wild variance in styles
  2. then there is the black cat you have pictured, followed by a letter "a" mug and a Christmas gnomes mug.

So apparently different people see different things in the scroll.

I just looked. I only have one store in case that skews results. A sample:

  • cabinet knob with an owl- the first recommended is a turtle cabinet knob by me, the rest are owl knobs by others, so it is staying thematic and prioritizing my turtle over other's owls.
  • bath towels with vintage toile pattern- it is showing other's towels also with vintage toile pattern
  • women's football jersey with a pineapple- it prioritizes other people's women's football jerseys with fruit but my men's football jersey for Block Island is at the end of the scroll
  • serpenski triangle design on a lighter- 5 thematically unrelated lighters I have made followed by 5 thematically unrelated lighters others have made

So sometimes there is strict adherence to theme (as with the cabinet knob). Sometimes there is loose adherence to theme (as with my Block Island jersey added on after other people's fruit jerseys). Sometimes there is no adherence to theme, as with the lighter.

The lighter one confuses me. Or maybe the phrase "serpenski triangle" confused it (it's a type of fractal). If the algorithm was using AI to find similar designs, it would have picked other people's geometric or abstract or fractal designs (of which there are many). If it was using keywords, there are lots of other people's lighters with triangle in the title: to be exact, there are 201, one of which is mine. But it put my other triangle lighter in the middle of the scroll instead of the front. For other people's lighters it chose seemingly at random; a template photo, a template monogram, something masonic.

Yours is a puzzle too. Maybe it isn't showing other people's designs because you have multiple stores so some sort of "must pick from multiple stores" command is satisfied. But it's weird that it isn't staying thematic. Do you not have other products of the same type that stay thematic? If you only have one golf fanny pack then I can see why it threw in other fanny packs of yours that are thematically unrelated. It threw in my Block Island jersey simply because I had no other fruit jerseys. But it first recommended other people's fruit jerseys. It's weird that it isn't throwing in at least a few of other's thematically related products.

I went to the MP to search golf fanny packs. There are many. The first one I picked recommended other golf fanny packs seemingly by other designers (although perhaps same designer with multiple stores). The second and third ones I picked had thematically unrelated fanny packs seemingly by other designers (again, maybe same designer with multiple stores). Interestingly, the algorithm also threw in backpacks (thematically unrelated) so it clearly groups them as "same product" just because they are together on the product page.

@KeegansCreation thanks for checking yours

It is strange. I do have multiple stores (for my sins 😂) and I was wondering if whether  maybe it's because I'm in the P2 program? Or my tags are terrible 🤣

Here's an example

https://www.zazzle.com/modern_stork_silhouette_teal_doula_espresso_cup-183417513325998931 and if you scroll along - there's a few thematic but nearly all those other mugs are from my stores - it's very strange

Dunno ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@KeegansCreation that is really interesting.

Perhaps it's a A/B test or a browser thing or a 'will never understand why' thing

Thanks for your observations!

ps - just went to an private browsing (not logged in firefox)

As a interesting add on - google analytics acknowledges that the stork espresso mug was viewed yesterday (thanks @KeegansCreation ) yet the back end stats have not updated yet to acknowledge that view.

Pretty convinced that not all views are counted as on checking the view insights...

So that 'last viewed 12 months ago' back end stat is incorrect as it was viewed December - May - July and yesterday.

I do wish they'd fix it

back end stats updated 🎉

The pattern I have observed is:

  • GA updates fastest. note: GA data for any site can take 24-48 hours to appear.
  • the "Last Viewed Date" can update later (as you saw with your mug)
  • Insights can lag a day or so behind "Last Viewed"

Some other differences to note:

    • Insights is based on customer views, while "Last Viewed" includes your views while logged in. (I can't find the original discussion on this)
    • The "Views" in Insights are more akin to "Viewers" (multiple views from the same individual (on the same day?) only count once

I've noticed that as of a couple of weeks ago, my products are mostly shown in the "other designs you may like" in the browsers I'm signed into (or not even signed into). To get a "clean" unbiased view I need to use a browser that I never sign into at all. Same thing for "sales of the day" Zazzle curated pages. 1st time I was thrilled that so many of my designs were in the 1st page or so. But if I checked on that other browser that I never sign into, some of my page 1 designs showed up on page 5 & most others never appeared at all in the 1st 1000 products. Now it's really hard to see where I stand in the mp. Really don't like this latest change.
