Setting royalty rate for digital

Barbara

Deciding to run a few tests, I chose a greeting card to set for digital download. I was then supposed to insert my desired royalty, but looking at the chart Zazzle had shown us, it appears we're supposed to get close to 100%. That can't be right. What is a reasonable amount to set for the downloads?

For folded greeting cards specifically, they suggest a 78.5% royalty  which brings the cards to $3.95 https://help.zazzle.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037785973 but you can set whatever you like

I've just noticed that a new tab has appeared in the edit product page just for digital royalty

Thank you so much! My jaw dropped when I saw the royalties. I'm assuming the high royalty is because the price of the digital version is a lot lower than the printed version. One should never make assumptions, but I couldn't help it.

Another reason for the high royalty would be the fact that a digital download carries no cost of production.

I also do Postcrossing!

I don't see that tab in "Edit products" is there something I need to do to have it appear?

When you click on Edit Details for a product, are you saying you don't see "Digital Downloads" at the bottom of the list on the left? Is it possible you're looking elsewhere because Sara happened to use the word "tab?" Essentially, it isn't a tab but a simple link.

Yes that's right, I only see the "instant download"tab on 2 cards. And on some cards from the drop down "Action" menu I get the option to enable instant download and on other cards and products it's missing

I went through all eligible products earlier today by clicking "Instant Download Settings" and then "Eligible" at the top of the back end. What showed up was all the products I had that I could make downloadable. It was a pile because I do a lot of paper products, so I went to the listing on the left and clicked on the Stationery department. I first chose greeting cards, selected all of them, and did a bulk edit on them. After that, I chose posters and did them.

Maybe it'll help you to do it the way I did. You don't have to select all of them, instead placing a checkmark in the little selection box to choose only those you want downloadable.

Keep in mind that you are only getting the royalty for ONE invitation, so it makes sense to set the royalty as high as possible, so at least you'll get more than a couple cents. For physical cards, you usually get bulk sales, which adds up to MUCH more than the digital sale, even at 100%.

I sell digital invitations in other platform. I did set up the price the royalty at 94% which takes the customer price to 14.2. Which is 4 dollars more than how much I sell in my other platform. Reasoning for the higher prices are:

1 - Most of people that buy printed invitations, buy several, and I end up making higher royalties

2 - People buying at Zazzle can download forever and download as png, while in the other platform they only have access for 6 months and can only download pdf png. So at Zazzle they should pay more.

3 - There are so many sales (promotions) at Zazzle that even with 94%, I am still making less royalties for digital sales than I do in the other platform.

Thank you so much for the insight, I just made my second sale on Instant downloads and I did left my royalty as default suggestion on 92.98 % ,  so both sales happened on a day with 20% promo sale and from third party, so my royalty ended up at 4.16$ instead of  8.32$ !  I was thinking to bring my royalty higher but didn't want to look too pricey ! With your experience and what you mentioned it makes more sense now, so I'm gonna feel better about bringing my royalty higher and see what happens.

YES!!!
AND SET IT TO 100 AND OVER!!!!
WE DESERVE THIS FREEDOM TO CHOOSE HOW LOW OR HIGH OUR RATES!!!
ZAZZLE, PLEASE CHANGE THIS OPTION TO GO AS HIGH AS WE CHOOSE!!!

I've also chosen 78%, just seemed like a low-enough price for a download, and high-enough profit that actually would make me more than if the customer purchased the paper version, which would normally be cheaper letterhead.

PLEASE, I AM ADMONISHING EVERY ONE OF YOU TO NOT SELL YOURSELF SHORT.
