someone ordered a direct only product that was not meant for sale

someone ordered a direct-only product that was not meant for sale. it's never been promoted externally, but it has been mentioned on the Zazzle forum and placed in the publicly visible collection below:

https://www.zazzle.com/collections/special_character_charts_for_script_fonts-119974752818768695.

this special characters chart was only meant as an aid for Zazzle creators to design and visualize
(not to mention that I've just updated the number of glyphs to this particular font chart this morning, and the (older) one that has been ordered was incomplete to begin with).

how do I have them cancel it?

If you have put the link to direct only, anyone can purchase it and as it's in a public forum and crawled by google search bots, they have the link.

I believe only Zazzle or the customer themselves can cancel an order.

thanks for the clarification, @Sara_H (it's not so much as that I am against the sale as it was something that they didn't have to pay for ... just sharing the knowledge).

Sort of amused by this as I'm struggling to understand how a paper copy would be useful to anyone. But hey, maybe it was purchased by a Zazzle designer who wanted to hang it over their desk to have an easy visual reference? Do you have some sort of licensing/copyright concern?

@Cat , yes, the licensing issue is part of my concern.

I have a feeling it was a designer who purchased it (even though I noted in the original post that the chart was incomplete and I *just* updated to a more complete chart for this font this morning!)

but more to the point, it wasn't something they needed to purchase as I did it for informational/reference purposes.

unfortunately, there is no way to make this chart a $0.00 product, or I would have done so. 🙂

@WHS_Designs It is so interesting what people will buy.

But, as a deterrence to purchase, you could set your royalty rate to 99%.  It should raise the price so high that no one would be willing to pay for it.  Just a thought...

thanks, @PacifierCity that's an interesting idea ... but wouldn't my zRank take a bloodbath? 🙂

@WHS_Designs  - idk about zRank diving... I guess it depends on how many products you actually in your store, versus how many products are in that collection...  I would imagine that if you had at least a few thousand products, you are probably safe... but greater minds than mine should chime in on that one.  I did not think of that...

@PacifierCity ,

I remember adjusting the royalty rate of my table cards (the flat ones, not the tent ones, which come in a pack of 25) a few years ago to 25% because I would be getting orders for a single, and that cheesed me a bit.

Even though I already had a few thousand items in my store at the time, and every other product in my store was set at 14.9%, my zRank dropped from 6 to 5.

So I reset my royalty for the flat table cards back to 14.9%, and my zRank bounced back to 6. 🙂

OK, I just had a thought. Maybe someone bought it because that way it goes into their designs where they're guaranteed to have access to it. So even if you were to delete it, they'd still have access to a digital copy. Maybe? (I realize it totally doesn't matter why someone bought it, but my brain can't stop cogitating on the issue...)

hmmm ... an interesting theory.

I think you'd like to solve this mystery as much as me! 🙂

If it was a designer, they'd know they could just click into the design tool on it to have it added to their own Saved Designs where they would always have it for reference. Since we're guessing, perhaps they bought one not because they needed a physical copy but just as a way to pay you back for the work you put into making and sharing the charts.

True, but Zazzle does delete things from your saved designs if you haven't accessed it recently. That happened to me with the original charts that Viviendules created.

it says saved designs will be deleted after six months. I try to remember to open those older saved designs once in a while, but the hundreds of undeletable designs also sitting in that folder sure aren't making this task easier or faster!

@ColsCreations a nice thought ... possibly! 🙂
