Hello, earlier I was placing an order for a binder that I designed when I noticed something odd. Normally the binder is set to 1" but I have it set to sell on all three sizes. I add the 1.5" version to my cart, and when I'm about to check out I notice that the product doesn't have the "Artwork designed by" credit like the 1" version. At first I didn't think too much of it until I got to the order status screen and noticed the same thing and also saw that no royalties for that specific product were pending either. An other product that also ordered but left on the default size was credited though. I quickly cancelled that order and placed the order again, but with the default 1" size of the binder and was credited and saw pending royalties in that order.
Also I followed the order again link for the 1.5" binder and saw that it did not have the store information either and was treated like it was created at the time of order.
I tested it again in the morning with a different product of mine and changed from the default size and saw that the "artwork designed by" credit missing in the cart too. I didn't place the order though, I was only testing for the credit.
Has anyone else noticed something similar recently?

Hi all,
There has been no change to how royalties are earned in these instances. When a creator orders their own design they will receive a royalty for their design. However, when the creator changes an aspect of the product such as the size or design, they are essentially creating a new private design that hasn't been posted for sale so no royalty will be received and no creator credit will appear. This doesn't apply to customers when they are purchasing a creators design. Creators will always record a sale for their published designs when purchased by customers. I hope that helps to clear things up. There is no technical issue present here so I am moving this to "Ask a Question". Please feel free to continue the conversation there if you wish 🙂

Hey @LS_Star
Many thanks for flagging this with us. Can you provide the links to the products in question so that we can verify this deeper for you? 🔍

Certainly, @Roberta
- Here is the link with the product with the store credit and how it displays by default. Credit was listed when attempting to purchase as is
- Here is the link that the rebuy option lead to and was a different size was selected. However, it is listed as private when I tried following it after logging out
- This is the product that I saw no issues with credit, but I also made no changes from how it presents by default.
This is not definite, but possibly worth noting. I have noticed products that also sell with size variations getting views, but no sales this month. At the time I brushed it off as users browsing, but now wonder if this has been going on a while. I can say for certain that on October 1st different size variations were still being credited as I sold a large version of a sherpa blanket that is defaulted to display on small. Which is also the other product that I tested this morning in the cart.

Thank you for this post. I played around with napkin sizes, invitation sizes, etc. and I am getting the same results that you did with the binder scenario.

Hey @LS_Star,
Our team have confirmed that this is expected behavior. You would need to order the item as is, including not changing the size, to earn the royalty for the product.

So if customers change any of the user options on products, we don't get royalties for it? That is not how it used to work (though would explain why some people are seeing lower sales).

since when? this is new information to me. Should we then be setting each product to 'this size only' and producing multiple individual copies?

Without question, it would certainly be nice if changes to our royalties payouts would be an announcement prior to them being changed.

Thank you for the clarification of how sales are differently recorded between customers and creators ☺

This makes no sense to me. A binder's back and front covers remain the same size. Only the depth changes. There's no effect on the design itself. It's not as if the design has been transferred to a tote or poster or anything else.
