That's how they benefit. They trick people to Follow back. The goal is to amass enough Followers that you can sell the account to some entity that would benefit from having a large built-in audience of followers and then just change the name of the account. And then there's just the old bait & switch, they trick you into following them so they show up on your feed and while the account name is Elon Musk noone notices that scrolling their feed, they just see the cool product image or video posted and click on it and now you have possible sales plus pay-per-click shenanigans ... I don't pretend to understand all the ins & outs, I just know it's def a thing, imposter accounts always have a reason. 😉
