Blooming Elegant

First of all, thank you Zazzle for listening to our suggestions. I have noticed the new fonts and I'm very excited, to see the additional script fonts, however, I don't see Blooming Elegant script or the other Blooming Elegant font on the list. I did go to a product on the marketplace where the designer had used the font and it did indicate in the design tool that it was blooming elegant but I don't see it as a selection in the fonts available. My question is will this cause a problem with designs that have already been made and will blooming elegant be back because although it's over used, I do like the glyphs that can be added. Thank you again for all that you do. I hope I'm not just missing something, I did check several times for the missing fonts.

It isn't a disaster. It will be alright. Give it an hour or so to setting down. So far my products look fine!

They are really pretty script fonts, you will love them!

Trying to make a running list of what appears to have been removed, so far:

Blooming Elegant

Blooming Elegant Hand

Blooming Elegant Sans

Holiday symbol font

Maritime BT - symbol font with all the little lobsters, boats, etc

Sugar Plums

Sugar Plums Italic

Sugar Plums symbols

Most of the symbol fonts, including the one a lot of people used for religious symbols

One of the Parisians, I think - Parisian TL?

According to @Fiorenzo over in this post these fonts are also gone. They're not ones I have used (at least I don't THINK I have used them) but if you're making a comprehensive list...

SHORTCUT, DISGUSTING BEHAVIOR, CHIC DECAY and PORCELAIN

The Distressed section lost A TON of fonts. My list is only the tip of the iceberg. One more I noticed is missing is TRASHED. The problem now is that the distressed choice has become very basic, designers focusing on grunge designs/art won't be that happy.

"Disgusting Behavior" is gone.
I used it on this small design collection and there isn't anything else like it. 😞

They said there are going to be lots more fonts coming this year so I really hope they will add a nice selection of more fun / decorative fonts like my below favs. There's I-dont-know-how-many script fonts now but Zazzle has so much more to offer than just wedding invites; we need more offbeat fonts to make other unique styles/product types really shine.

They got rid of the holiday and maritime symbols? That's sad!

Thank you Kristen.

Add Anthology to the list.

Thank you, Kristen. It would be helpful if Zazzle would provide a complete list with all the discontinued fonts. It seems I am only barely scratching the beginning of the long list of disasters.

I will be curious to see what Z replaces our Blooming elegant with. It was a good run with that font family while it lasted.

Cat

Whatever they choose, the chances of the ligature characters being replaced with something similar are almost non-existent. - which means that they're about to destroy a significant percentage of their wedding designs. Shaking my head.

Their latest font news https://community.zazzle.com/t5/creator-news/continual-evolution-of-our-font-library/ba-p/31062

In their latest news they also said:

”We're confident the automagic will meet your needs but in case it doesn't, let us know at team.designer@zazzle.com.”

I am very wary of it. I seriously do not want an auto migration, I want an opt out and choose myself. No font can adequately look like another. Just leave products with Retired Fonts as is. KristenJ describes how products with Blooming text appears now in her above replies “I can edit text on existing products that use Blooming Elegant Sans, and publish with it, but can't select it when creating new text.” This is better than them selecting some random font for us. We are the designers, not them.

CrazyMermaid

Maybe it didn't go away, maybe it's migrating. Don't you think that the team would have compensated for the ligatures that so many people used. I am still in trust and calm mode, I just went through my top 500 products and they all look fine, even the ones with blooming elegant and sugar plums.

LMGildersleeve
Valued Contributor III

I don't subscribe to that doom and gloom mentality. It's a waste of energy and time worrying about something before it happens. Speculations can make you go crazy.

I bet they don't replace it and the listing is just in flux. If they did replace it, they will do it right with ligatures etc. Why would they want chaos in so many products that make them money? Personally I hated that font, so I didn't use it all that much. I did use Sugar Plums a lot though. We will see.

Anne
Valued Contributor II

I don't see Sugar Plums any more either ...

Anne Vis Icon

Just because you didn't use something doesn't mean it doesn't affect other people negatively. A lot of people are upset and a of things have been affected. Your personal experience doesn't apply to every persons experience. You can't just "replace" a font with another and call it done. Thats not how design works and its dismissive to tell people that its "fine" when they do not feel that way based on their very real personal experience.

The closest I can see is a font called Beautiful BUT having done some switcherooing to test how this automation may work --- it messed up my design... so unless the whole thing can adjust scale, lengthen text boxes, remove the little square boxes we add in text for swooshes etc... then ....... 😭

They replaced the script with Morgana, which fits almost perfectly, and has universal tails. The Sans was replaced with Dongle, which is UGLY in lowercase, and isn't all-caps, so that's going to be a major problem. Unless they automatically replace all the text with all uppercase.

Do you know when they added the Blooming fonts for the first time?

Marcia
Valued Contributor III

@Lais I think almost 5 years ago. Sugar Plum also came out with that bundle & I see I first made products with that around 10/17. And I see I used the Blooming Elegant handwritten one around 11/17.

I don't see a replacement font for Blooming Elegant in my existing designs yet, so staying guardedly optimistic. I am excited to see the new fonts, however, and really looking forward to more variety. Thanks Z!

OH NO!!

Maritime and Holiday picture fonts are on some of my best selling designs. They do not show under the all-fonts listing.

KC

What. WHAT. I'm not understanding how the literally most popular font may be gone entirely.

Marcia
Valued Contributor III

Ok, I have the new fonts now. Actually, some nice script ones. Blooming Elegant is still sticking on my published products. Hope it stays there.

And do any of the new script fonts have swashes on them?

Can we PLEASE have a moderator comment on all this?

CrazyMermaid
Valued Contributor II

You can google the fonts and find about about ligatures and swashes.

Deb
Valued Contributor

while I appreciate this  suggestion - we should not have to take Our time to chase it all down, this should be of Utmost importance for the zazzle team to  tell us - since so many of us use  these with invitations -

CrazyMermaid
Valued Contributor II

That is what we had to do with Blooming Elegant. I guess after some of us did chase it down, others got the benefit of where to find swashes etc.

LMGildersleeve
Valued Contributor III

I'm sure it will take awhile to migrate the new chosen replacement for Blooming Elegance. It's going to take patience for things to change. As the Mermaid said... you have to go on Google to find glyphs for fonts. Zazzle never gives us that information. We had to do that for Blooming Elegance back in the day.

Cat
Honored Contributor III

From the announcement: "But not to worry about the removal part; for as many designs as possible, we have already anticipated your concerns and will be transitioning the designs for you automatically. We're confident the automagic will meet your needs but in case it doesn't, let us know at team.designer@zazzle.com."

This would seem to indicate that they're not going to leave the deleted fonts on existing designs. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens when they migrate to the new fonts. The thing is that pretty much all of the removed fonts are ones that designers use specifically because they contain special characters, so choosing a similar font might work if you've only used standard characters, but for me, at least, that isn't how I've used those fonts.

Blooming Elegant: The whole point of using this font is for the leading and trailing swashes - I've checked all of the new fonts and none of them will replace the swashes. They either put a completely different character into that spot or leave it blank.

Holiday Symbols & Maritme Symbols - those are used like clipart. Are they going to replace those characters with similar clip art? I doubt it.

Sugar Plums Symbols - those are used for creating WordArt designs - how can they possibly come up with an adequate replacement? Doesn't seem possible.

Anyhow, I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but I'm not at all optimistic. If these were fonts that are primarily used with the standard characters it wouldn't be a big issue to swap out the font, but they aren't.

I think I found something that was migrated. It's an older, popular product that used Blooming Elegant Sans (the all caps). It looked normal in the marketplace, but when I opened it, I found that the sans serif had been changed to a rounded font called Dongle. It's not a great replacement and doesn't have the same feel or gravitas at all. I'm hoping that this isn't the official decision and something can still be salvaged, because this is sadly going to undo years of work.

And yes, I've already emailed Team Creator.

ChristineK
New Contributor III

I've found one of mine switched, also. Just like yours, my product was switched to Dongle for the sans serif. I also used the blooming elegant script on this product, and it was switched to Morgana, and it does still have swashes on the front and back of the word. So I'm guessing the swashes at least are being retained.

kristenj
New Contributor III

Morgana looks like it could be a decent sub - whew! Dongle, though, is really bad. Probably gonna take me the rest of my life to edit all of those to (I think) Futura Med. Time for a Depp Mega Pint of wine, lol.

Sara_H
Honored Contributor III

The issue I see changing Blooming Elegant Sans all caps to Dongle (if that's what they're doing) a lot of time text would have originally be written in lower case (but still appears as all caps) and should it get changed to dongle - will the lower case take over?

Making my head spin a little bit

All my best sellers are going to be screwed

sigh - joining you in a mega pint of wine

DesignerOne
New Contributor III

Dongle is bad. It has rounded edges and looks rather childish. Not an adequate replacement.

And just like Morgana, Dongle is bigger than Blooming Sans so will now have to edit all the placeholder texts to make it shorter if it’s already at the smallest font size.

Complete nightmare, this font retirement is wasting all our time and none of the Zazzle staff have appeared on the forums to answer our concerns.

Don’t even know if we should start editing our designs in case Zazzle decides to switch back once they understand what a mess this is all causing.

Dongle reminds me of comic sans. I'm not a fan.

Cat
Honored Contributor III

I just tried manually switching one of my Blooming Elegant Script designs to Morgana and it's a mess! The font is HUGE and the front and back swashes don't match at all. Was your text re-sized to account for this?

Sorry, I'm not sure if the text was resized! This was literally the only one of this product type I had made in this design (It was post-it notes) so I don't have anything to compare it to.  If I notice any other products that I can get more info from about the font size, I'll let you know.

The font sunglow has swashes and it's a nice font to replace blooming elegant.
