How To Pair Fonts For Wedding Invitations - Practice Templates Enclosed

Hi all I'm sharing a couple of resources I have created for my course students so that those new to invitation design can play with different font pairings. I thought I'd share them here as well as I wish I'd had a resource like this back in the day! You are welcome to open up the 'customize tools' and 'copy' the pairings to your own products for practice or publication. The names of the fonts are as shown in the demo.

Thanks for the examples. I'm pretty terrible at font pairing.

Thank you so much for the font charts. I am overwhelmed by the choices and really appreciate having this resource available. It is very generous of you to share this! 💗

Leah, your pairings are superb, and it makes me wonder how, when you're putting together something new, you recognize what works and what doesn't. I don't design for formal occasions, but I nevertheless run into pairing problems on things like informal invitations and business cards. I test and test and test yet again until a pairing finally "feels" right. Is this how you do it, or have you studied typography?

Yes , trial and error ... and a bit of research but the guides I saw online don't cover Zazzle's fonts. The main thing I've learned is that you can pair the same font, just change the spacing or do one in capitals, one in lower case and just see how that works.

Yes, I've looked online too, and you're right about the fonts they use as examples. It helps a bit in the sense that some the people point out those subtle differences in fonts' readability, but that's nowhere near enough, and I've spotted their use of letter spacing, which is certainly a good tool to keep on hand.

ps, the 3rd-course module will cover font pairing in greater detail with more 'help sheets'.
