Anyone else have products with TONS of views but ZERO sales?

I've been noticing lately that a few of my products are being viewed almost daily and the "total views" are really high, but they never sell.  I started wondering if maybe there was something wrong with the personalization (they can't customize or edit, etc.) but I checked a few and everything seems to be ok.  Usually with most of my products, if they get a handful of views, they eventually sell.  If they're not selling - typically they're not getting views either.   Just curious if anyone else sees this with any of their products.

Yes, I do also.  I had sold a few of my pink rose golf balls about 2 months ago and since then have received many views but no purchases.  There shouldn't be any customization issues as nothing needs to be added or changed.

I have two items that are viewed 1-2 times a day (for the last 10 years). ... No sales.

I assume someone has them posted on a blog or Pinterest, where people look but don't buy.

I have a few in one of my stores that have thousands and thousands of views but no sales.
Most of the products in that store are also not customizable.

I had a product that was continually in the top five when I sorted by "last viewed" in the back end and it was always 2nd or 3rd as to "most viewed all-time".  Because it was a direct-only item I made as a one-off for family, I couldn't figure out why, I knew they weren't looking at it on a daily basis! When I finally took the time to investigate, I figured it out.

One family member who had purchased multiples of it (it was a custom t-shirt) left a couple of very nice reviews on it which included the product thumbnail w/ the custom design on it. For whatever reason, one of those reviews was always at the top of the review list whether I was signed in or not. Which meant anyone looking at t-shirts of any style could see it and click on it. So there was my answer - all the mystery views had to be coming from the review list at bottom of product pages. So I changed it from Direct-Only to Hidden and the daily views stopped - it hasn't been viewed in over 6 months now and I can't find that review on the product pages anymore. (If I go to the member profile of the person who bought & reviewed it, I can see the reviews they left for it, but, interestingly and importantly, the t-shirt thumbnail is blank, it no longer shows my custom design on it.)

What I learned from this was
1 ) a review that somehow lands near the top of the reviews list is helpful in bringing traffic to said item and
2) we think of DO products as being private unless we share the link, but if the customer reviews it - there's a link being shared we hadn't thought about. So if you want to keep such private set them to Hidden after the sale so that reviews don't become a leak.

Anyways, point being - a published review is one possible reason for lots of views on something.

Thanks everyone...  interesting to hear all of the different suggestions as to why this might be happening.  I guess I just assume that if a product is attracting so many view, eventually someone will want to buy it.  That seems to be the case with most of my products.  Was starting to wonder if something was preventing people from purchasing it because why would so many look at it but never actually buy?  Oh well.  At least it keeps them from being moved to hidden!  😉

Or it could be possible that many designers are looking at your product for inspiration, but have no intention of buying.

I have one with around 4000 views and no sales. I think it might be a sub-category featured item or something because it's very niche. Maybe those count?

I have one with an insane amount of views that never sells lol but there’s a slight error in the design that I can’t fix bc I don’t have the option to fix designs like some shops have (I cry about this every day lol) . It is one very minor thing that I will be able to fix if I had that option so I am not going to take it down, I made the corrected version and they’re in a collection together but the corrected version doesn’t get many views yet. I am hopeful I will have that feature soon so I can fix the tiny error and then all those views on that product will count for something lol! Generally tho from what I’ve noticed my views match my sales on items but that one in particular is truly a thorn in my side lol. I just wish I could fix the tiny error and not lose the product because wherever the views are coming from it is is being promoted very well lol

I have a few products that get a lot of views and no sales, and there's no obvious reason why people are viewing but not buying. So I just leave them there; maybe one day they'll sell?

Yes!

I was just about to make a post about this but I found your post...

I have 2 products with over 8000 and 9000 views but no sales??? They are Minx nail art wraps so maybe those just don't sell? But I find that really strange...you would think that there would be a handful of sales with 9000 views?

Maybe BKMuir is right...maybe the products are on a blog or somewhere else where they are viewed a lot but just not purchased...

I have no idea...it's nice to see all of these views but then frustrating and a little strange to see no purchases? 😐

could be price and shipping, as nail art on pinterest always top trending, so people are looking

serously? over 9000 views? I might have posted some of those minx nail art on pinterest but so far, I have never successfully sold a nail art even once, but there are thousands of view on my pinterest.

I'm jealous.  I have been with Zazzle for 3 years and haven't received even a 1000 views on any one of my products.  Where do you promote your product?

I’ve been here three years as well and my products don’t get ANY or maybe one or two views!!! I have the opposite problem! What is going on? It’s extremely discouraging, to say the least. https://www.zazzle.com/store/rrbstudio

I looked at your store and you have nice designs. Camping is a fun niche and I noticed those designs right away. One thing I would suggest is for your cover photos, show off the artwork actually on the products. By showing only a square image filled with the artwork as the cover, the customer cannot see your products and will move on.  Another thing that is critical to success on Zazzle is having good titles, descriptions and tags. Review Zazzle's guidance on this here: https://help.zazzle.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000373127-Title-Description-Tagging-Best-Practices.  The titles and tags are what get your products found in searches, so they are very important. Best of luck to you!

Thank you very much for the helpful suggestions!

At least 1 of my products has been one the front page of google for almost a year. And I don't get views or purchases

I found this info online about the view/purchase ratio in general:

"A conversion rate of 1% to 3% is considered to be average"

"Average ecommerce conversion rates are around 2.5% to 3% according to industry leaders, but that doesn’t mean this is your business’s sweet spot. Having a baseline of 2.5% is a good place to start, but keep working to optimize this with conversion rate tactics."

I have shops online where I get an average of 4% to 5% percent. I haven't figured out what's the rate here on Zazzle.

I have one with almost 9,000 views and only one sale. It's an illustration/print and sells quite well for me elsewhere; I'm convinced it doesn't do well here because the preview images make the prints look slightly blurry, even though the file itself is clear. I wouldn't buy a blurry print either!

Sounds just pretty much like the way I shop. I come looking for a product or a design, perform MANY searches and click on a LOT of stuff before I actually buy anything. I could spend half a day looking through stuff, easy. I'll put things in my cart and mull them over for a few days to a month. Often I end up saying "nah" and slap something together myself because I'm just not finding that perfect thing. There's a whole discussion elsewhere about "too many choices", but in my opinion, there are never enough choices, and of course, you have to sift through seemingly thousands of wedding invites and kids' birthday cards to get to something you want for your own life. Go looking for sci-fi, and what do you get for first results? A WEDDING INVITE AND KIDS BIRTHDAY CARD. Cripes sakes.

Very helpful point of view, thanks for sharing

I have not checked number of views of all my products, but I'm having few products with tens of views and no sales. Over the time there could be much users viewing a product page, maybe just curious or just they prefer something else. Moreover, if your product are listed on google or on other social they can be found and view quickly and easily, an user do not pay to see... Hope this help.

Same here! It has always happened with all the variations I have made with that design. It even happened that I deleted a design with some errors and the one that replaced it also started receiving daily visits, but no sales. So, I thought that maybe something in the description is wrong and that is not what the buyer is looking for. Or they simply take a screenshot and leave. Well, I chose to put a watermark, since now many of the products have their own cover photo. In any case, at Christmas time I put the watermark because I have verified that many products only receive visits with the intention of taking a screenshot and I want it to be a little difficult for those scammers.

Zero sales for almost a week.

What's going on?

genocides (Gaza and Congo), seasonal changes, recession, inflation are all happening at the same time.

This might be a silly question, but has anyone talk to a Zazzle representative about this issue? I've just started out and reading all of these posts are very discouraging. What everyone's describing seems like it could be a major glitch in their system. I will say that I'm not overly impressed with the help I've gotten from Zazzle thus far. Seems like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing in their help center as I've received conflicting information from various Representatives.

Maybe zazzle's popularity outgrew their software. The fact that these kind of things are going on, and being voiced on a company / community bulletin board, with no interjection from a company representative speaks volumes

Overall I think people are "window shopping" finding our products online and clicking through to view.  They may be bookmarking to buy later, but now the sales are off.  I think for the US its due to the inflation and also due to the "election"  people are holding onto their money and only buying what they really need.

yes, I'm in the exact same boat. I have a product that is up to 1277 views and is ways landing in my "top viewed" products however it's not had a sale since June 23, 2024. I usually have a pretty high conversion rate as well so it's an anomaly.

Barbara
Esteemed Contributor

I have a product with 177,541 views since it was first posted in June of 2016, but its orders total 25. That's a conversion rate of .01408%, which is nearly infinitesimal. It puzzled me for quite some time until I realized it must have been picked up by Google images because it's something musicians would commonly search on. They're looking at it for information and/or printing. So, don't forget about that sort of thing happening.
