Customers can now adjust an image on the product page, without going into the design area

I checked, but I didn't see a post about this yet. I only see this on Chrome right now, but after the customer replaces an "image template or placeholder image" on the product page, they are able to adjust the image, without going into the design area. They can zoom in and out and move the image. We can also adjust the image, without going into the design area. Thank you Zazzle.

This is currently in testing, so not everyone is going to see it.

Please consider the testing successful 🙂 It really helps in getting the photo in the correct position for the customer and makes it easier for creators too not worry so much if the photo space in the design will work.

It's perfect! Please keep it!

This sounds fantastic...can hardly wait to see it in action!! Unfortunately, I'm not in on the test so I'll have to be patient darn it.

Not working here yet (tried on all browsers) but sounds and looks promising. And comes just in time for the incoming holiday designs.

@Scott If you can manually add accounts to your testing list and like to get my feedback, I would be happy to take a (technical) look before it goes live. BTW. I have seen that you adjusted the image template listings on the mobile phone view so it shows also the label description (was cropped before). Thanks for this valuable fix. One little cosmetic note: the thumbnail gets hor. stretched when there is a longer description, and I wouldn't use bold font formatting. Edit: this may have changed again with the adjustment upgrade. Have a great day!

I'm not in the test so I can't see it so can somebody let me know- does it work with masked images too?

KeeganCreations

I checked and yes it works on masked images too.

Fantastic news 😁

I love it. Tried it on a collage birthday card and I can adjust each picture to make them show perfectly.

Just tried it on desktop, it really is a great new feature from Zazzle!

It makes sure that customer's photos are always suitable for the photo areas in our designs

Any of you who were able to see this feature, can you still? I haven't been able to see it at all no matter what browser I try, so wondering if it's still being tested or not. I'm working on something with a bunch of image templates so am super curious how it's going to look on the product page with this new feature.

Hmmm... well I can see it on my products, but I tried it on one of yours and it wasn't there. So maybe the A/B test is by designer not by user?

Well anyhow, here's what it looks like. After the user replaces the template image with their own, an "adjust" button appears:

adjust-image-1.jpg

Once they click on the "adjust" button, a popup screen comes up that allows them to move and resize their image within the template:

adjust-image-2.jpg

Here's a link to the product I took those screen shots from: We Still Do Plum Purple Roses & Photo Vow Renewal Invitation | Zazzle

Maybe you can see it on my products? Worth a try anyhow.

I see it on your link Cat and I'm using Firefox right now.

Thank you for the insights, Cat, that was extremely helpful. Gives an idea of how it works. Let's now see how many customers manage to completely de-place or blow up the image and then complain it has unprinted areas or it looks blurry 😉 Unfortunately, your link didn't work for me. I hope it's implemented soon before the Christmas rush starts.

@Fiorenzo Well, it won't let you move the image beyond the inside of the original boundary (if that makes sense) so you can't leave a blank spot at the edge. And if you try to enlarge it too much you get a warning so hopefully that won't be a problem:

Good. Already tested if the whole customer's image stays in the placeholder area if the template option is set to "FIT", e.g. logos?

Good question. I don't use "fit" very often. Let me see if I can find one and test it.

OK - interesting... I tested a few that were set to "fit" and also a few that were set to "none" and in both cases it didn't give me the option to adjust the photo. So maybe it only works with images set to "fill"?

You can try it on one of my postcards, if you want and if it works. On the backside you can either add a logo in place of the signature monogram or change the little image on top of the middle line. These are both set with FIT.

Tried on both images and didn't get the adjust option.

Ran one more test. I took one of my older designs where it's set to "none" and changed it to "fill." I exited the design tool and tested it (without saving it as a new product) and the "adjust" button appeared. So I think that's pretty conclusive evidence that it has to be set to "fill" in order to get the "adjust" option.

Thinking about it, it makes sense. There is nothing to adjust with the FIT option, contrary to the FILL option where you may want to adjust the placement and size, basically "cutting" the image at the right places. I guess that's probably why they set the default to FILL and are encouraging us to use it. Makes total sense.

I did the same the test and it only adjust with the fill and not the fit or none.

I could probably count on less than one hand the number of products I have with image templates so I'm amazed you found one to test. Thank you. I'm currently working on something that will have 25 image templates (sort of a prototype for a new product line idea) and was concerned how messy & complicated that might look on the product page with this new feature but you have absolved my worries.

Store IconStore IconWebsite IconFacebook IconPinterest IconInstagram IconBenable IconNight Cafe IconDiscord IconBuy Me a CoffeeOut of Stock List

I still see it, but not all the time, it comes and it goes. I see it on Chrome, Waterfox and Firefox and you can only see it, if you click on the personalize this template and replace an image.

If you have a collage of images, this is what it looks like, after you click the adjust button and then you can adjust the image or zoom and make it bigger.

@Cat  I went to your link and was only able to enlarge my image, although the "tools" were there for alterations, I could not move or make smaller.

plumb4me
Valued Contributor

You can only enlarge an image.

After you replace an image and make that image larger, you can make that image smaller again or make it even larger and you can move the image, after you enlarge it.

After you replace an image, the adjust is basically for images that are different sizes and larger than our template areas.

Example: Cat has a square image in the template area and if I place a square image there, I can not move it, because it's the same size. If I place a rectangle image in that template area, I can adjust the image and move it, because it's not the same size, as the square.

Cat
Honored Contributor III

Exactly. I think the idea is to prevent people from accidentally making the image smaller than the original space and leaving a blank area.

Brings up an interesting issue though. In that design I used a square image, but it's masked to an oval shape - so really a rectangular vertical portrait oriented image would fit fine within the mask - but if you upload a vertical image you can only move it up and down - you can shrink it to fit the original image, but not the mask. Makes me think that we should crop the image to the closest possible fit before masking it.

That's a good idea for cropping the image, as close as possible to the shape, that is masked. I just did a test and masked a square, with an image that was way bigger than the square. Then, I replaced the image and it was the size of the larger image and not the square shape. I could only adjust the image in the mask side to side.

Cat
Honored Contributor III

Hmmm... well it won't let you make the image smaller than the borders of the original, and you can't move it so that it's effectively smaller - meaning you can't leave a blank spot on the edge. So if your image is the same aspect ratio as the original, you have to enlarge it before you can move it. Maybe that's what you're seeing?

It's not working for me on Brave or Vivaldi but I was able to at least see and text how it works on Opera. Very nice!

Barbara

The single problem is that the replacement image covers any top layers that might be there such as text, frames, and anything else the customer might need to consider when moving or resizing.

This is such a great moment! Perhaps now many customers who were shy and afraid to work with design templates will give this a try. Thank you!

What a great feature! Thanks to the team for developing it:)

Barbara

It's definitely a long asked-for feature, and like everyone else, I'm super pleased to see it, but take the time to test it out, choosing several of your products with replaceable images, randomly choosing replacements. You're likely to discover that you have to go back and forth, nudging and resizing, looking at the results, adjusting some more, again checking results. I had one where it took a number of tries before I could get the replacement image where it needed to be.

This is the one flaw that I hope Zazzle can correct, making it so the customer can see the results while they're adjusting, not having to go back and forth, adjusting, looking, adjusting, looking, etc.

I saw this option on some of my products a week or so ago and wondered about it. It is a good change.

Marcia

I was making some paper ornaments tonight & it was there. By the time I made the 2nd ornament it wasn't there. And it disappeared from the 1st one I had already created & published. I hope it appears again! I really like this feature. I had a friend of mine order cards from me about a year or so ago & complained on & on how Zazzle didn't have this feature when Shutterfly & others have had it for years & how cumbersome it was for him to create his card on Zazzle...& how he never would have used Zazzle except (as a favor???) to me...lol

I'm not sure if it's still in a test or not, but the same thing happened to me. I made a card earlier and the adjust button disappeared and didn't appear when published. It would be nice to know if this is a glitch (so they can fix it) or if we are just no longer part of the test. Zazzle, any insight for us? Thanks in advance.
