Hey there, fellow Zazzlers!
Guess what? We've got a bunch of dedicated Zazzlers out there who are putting all their efforts into Pinterest as their go-to strategy for driving those sales.
So, let's take a moment to evaluate if it's really worth the hustle, shall we?
Now, I need you to share some data here.
- Monthly Pinterest Views
- Daily Linkovers
- Daily referrals
Here's the deal:
If you're racking up massive Pinterest views (like over 100,000 per month), but your daily linkovers and daily referral rates are disappointingly low, it's probably safe to assume that all those Pinterest views aren't actually translating into visits to your Zazzle products or the ones you're affiliated with.
Makes sense, right?
Let me give you an example from my own experience.
I've got around 75k Pinterest views per month (which, compared to some folks who have over 200k, isn't that high). However, my daily linkovers are high with over 1000 per day and there was even a day last week when I hit over 2,000 linkovers.
Now, that's more than what some of those high Pinterest-view folks are getting.
As for my daily referral rate, the 35% referrals are between 2 and 5 referrals per day.
So, what does this mean?
Well, it's a little hunch of mine, but I believe the majority of my daily linkovers come from good ol' Facebook rather than Pinterest.
But here's the kicker: we can only figure out the true value of spending a boatload of time pinning if we gather data and insights from fellow Zazzlers.
That way, we can optimize our social media marketing efforts and make the absolute best use of our precious time.
So, am I on the right track here?
Who's up for joining me on this quest to determine just how worthwhile our pinning endeavors truly are?
Let's make every second count.
Please share your results below, for those who don't wish to, that's fine, please be a passive observer to this experiment so we can clearly see the posts with the data. Thank you!

This is indicative that Pinterest may not the best method for gaining referrals, I have similar monthly Pin views and 2-5 referrals a DAY. Meanwhile I went into analytics (not sure why I didn't before) and I know for certain now my 1000+ linkovers daily are not from Pinterest. Thank you for sharing these results.

5.7K monthly pinterest views, an average of 100 linkovers a day (based on the last 18 days and not including the outlier highs from May 31 and June 1), and an average of 9 referrals a month (99% of which are self-referrals).
I also only use Pinterest to promote mine and other designers' products.

These are good results based on your low Pinterest views, if you compare with Lynne-Marie and my own resulst from Pinterest. Whatever you're doing is have a greater impact. Let's discuss further and thank you for sharing these results.

My answer to your topic question would have to be a resounding NO. Thank goodness my sales are healthy in spite of these negative stats and sad referral rate.
- Monthly Pinterest Views = 121.5
- Daily Linkovers = 41 average
- Monthly Referral Average = 3

Thes figures are definitely reflective (as are others) that Pinterest is not a Golden Goose for referrals, thank you for sharing your results. Meanwhile I found my pins with most views were those shared via my course website (other sellers items). And they were not created pins or anything fancy. So I believe sharing via a website is for 'some reason' favorable re Pinterest.

I was going to tell you that you should add tracking codes into your links... BUT you are in the Promoter Program and can't do that...
Seems like you need better tracking data to know for sure....
And yes, if you have a claimed website, P will favor links back to that as opposed to someone elses site (aka Zazzles, in this case). I can't explain the why behind it anymore... I'd have to go on an info hunt to back that up... but I.m about 90% sure that it is true....

Thank you for this thread! I've been wanting to delve more deeply into Pinterest results as well.
- Monthly Pinterest Views = 45-50K
- Daily Linkovers = 140 average (some via Twitter)
- Monthly Referral Average = 2-3
My monthly Pinterest views were climbing higher in the spring but started vacillating. I've since scaled back efforts since I obtain better Linkover results through Tweeting, and my time is very limited. I haven't given up Pinterest altogether, though, since I've seen some referrals that appear to correlate to frequently saved pins.
I hope to investigate in more detail once I can carve out more time, but until then, I've set a modest daily goal for Pinterest impressions. Beyond that, I'm focusing time elsewhere, e.g., on Twitter or on Zazzle covers. I hope people continue to contribute to this thread! It's great to learn from other people's experiences.
