Dog memorials taking over top search results

Dog memorials are taking over the first results page of just about every photo based category

Are these just very popular holiday gifts, or is something amiss with search results?

I checked only one--photo mugs--and didn't see any dog memorials. Were you doing a particular search where this showed up?

I was not able to duplicate this either. I did a couple of specific item searches and then a general photo gift search and while there were here and there some dog items, most were people photos. Is it possible you had looked at some pet memorial products and now this is what the algorithm thinks you want to see? We do see different results depending on whether we're logged in to our account or not when we do a search.

According to Google Trends, the most popular searches over the past week have been for personalized gifts, aprons, and Christmas cards, which is to be expected during the holiday season .

pillows. blankets, tote bags.. a few others. I was not looking for anything pet related

What is interesting is that I was getting 7-8 versions by the same designer all on the first page

I seriously dislike the home page these days, given that it shows my own stuff to me, which makes me distrust what's actually popular. It even promotes me to me. I'm now going to see what happens with the dog situation if I run some searches not signed in. I shall return...

Nope, no dog stuff at all.

ok well must have just been me then... i just thought it was very strange. I am always signed in and would not be looking for any of those types of products

Actually, I did a generic search on “photo gifts” after I read your post, and I got the same results—lots of items with pets and pet memorials. So I was able to repeat what you were seeing.

I have noticed this with search. It seems some best sellers are being pushed back and newer designs have been taking their place. Some of the products being pushed back have sold thousands more than the ones taking their place.

I noticed the same quite some time ago. I had a clock totally at the top of its game, and then its sales slowed down to the point where there's now only the rare sale. It sank off the front pages to somewhere behind the barn. I'm thinking what's selling currently rises to the top, pushing the oldsters down further and further. This may be what you're seeing, but without seeing the product's current activity, there's no way of knowing if what happened to my clock is what's happening elsewhere.

I have noticed that in some categories a large number of Editors' Picks have been placed at the top of the search with some not having many sales at all, and the best sellers with hundred or even thousands more sales have been placed far back.

It's probably just those people that somehow know the magic trick to flood every category with their designs on every style even when it has nothing to do with the keywords you put in. Sigh.
