Hitting 'Edit This Design' Button Is Opening Multiple Tabs

Suddenly Zazzle is opening tons of new tabs, please make it stop.  It's happening on both normal edits and transfers.  It's making my browser chaos. And maybe this has something to do with why the replace tool is missing all of a sudden.

For a normal product, if I click in to one of my products, hit 'edit this design', it opens an entirely new tab for the design tool, while leaving the duplicate product tab I just hit the button on.

If you hit 'transfer design' (either from on the product page or from the backend product feed dropdown), choose the item you want to make, it opens one new tab (like it always has). Then when you hit 'edit this design', it opens the design tool in a second new tab.

It happens whether you are logged in or not.  Both Chrome and Safari.

Still happening as of this morning. I'm hoping this isn't expected new behavior.  It's so confusing for both customers and designers.

That sounds absolutely dreadful. What kind of A/B causes that hind of havoc on an unsuspecting person. It would have me in tears. Thank G*!$ it's you and not me. Just kidding, well not really. I hope it stops soon.

HAHA yeah it was a bit of madness last night. I only worked on a handful of products and I looked at my tabs and was like what is happening, I don't remember opening this many. Then I started to question if I had actually worked on the products even because their page was still sitting there like I hadn't even started to edit.

This is an AB test that we're running.

@Scott I was just about to respond to say I was running on all of the latest browsers and Mac updates.  Do you know if this test is why some of us are missing the replace tool suddenly as well? Is it causing a glitch?

I truly hope that this test ends and is not implemented as it is confusing as both a designer and customer.  It was better when the design tool 'opened' but was still on the same tab.

please stop running it

Hi Scott, just some feedback from my experience as a user experience consultant... the opening of additional tabs is bound to cause confusion if a customer is working on multiple products at once. It's not expected behavior, which is the first problem. Then, it gets incredibly confusing when you switch between multiple tabs to customize multiple products. It's happened to me repeatedly - I open a product and click to edit, forget it's opened a separate tab, come back to finish editing in a new session and end up clicking the edit button and opening a new instance of that design without realizing it. I end up with multiple tabs and no idea which one is which. I hope this goes back to the standard, expected behavior soon because it's incredibly frustrating.

I just overwrote my own pending matchbox design because of exactly this. : (

I hear you! I love 99% of the changes that have been made to the design tool, which is clearly being modeled after Canva and that can only be a good thing for customers. But, lord, this one is a nightmare and I can't see any good reason for it.

Suddenly, when you click on a saved design, you are automatically directed to the edit mode (not to the product page as before). Then, when you click on "Save & Exit", you jump back to the saved designs screen, and not to the product page (as before). You have no way to enter the product page, which is a big issue.

This happens when you are logged in. When you are logged out, and you click on "Save & Exit", you get a popup with a choice of where you want to be redirected. This popup does not show when you are logged in, so I assume (and hope!) this is a bug. Please fix, heading back to the product page is crucial! Thank you!

saved-designs-bug.JPG

Edit: happens on Windows desktops, tried with Chrome and Edge. The behavior changed just recently, worked fine 1 or 2 hrs ago.

Edit 2: The saved designs are (now?) listed in the tab "my products" of the account page. Not sure how it was before, if the tab was called "saved designs". I also noticed that the URL of that page says "https://www.zazzle.com/mbr/[my member number]/inprogress - never saw this before.

saved-designs-bug-2.JPG

Edit 3: The "fallback" link to the saved designs via the (old) menu popup on the account page is also gone, so no way to test it out this way.

As always, we appreciate the detailed feedback. I've moved this comment into an existing discussion because this change is part of an AB test.

Curious why you need to get to the product page? Is that just what you're used to seeing? What actions are you trying to take at this stage? If there are reasons why you definitely need to be on the product page please let me know and I'll send that over to the team.

Fiorenzo
Valued Contributor II

No, it's not because "it's just what I'm used to seeing", it's because it's helpful to be able to use the product page to get additional info about the product you're designing, to quickly switch between the different options to see how that design looks (and if it works) on other shapes and sizes, or to be able to transfer the design to other products to see how it works there... to name a few.

This new behavior hurts even more since you have a bug within the designer that throws you out of the tool the moment you switch back to the design mode after having checked/changed the product options - a bug that I reported a long time ago while addressing the inability to get into the designer after changing product options (on the product page), and that isn't fixed yet. You can't even change the product option now while working on your design, if you take it from the saved design list. Unless you publish a temporary dummy and continue working on that one in one session without making the mistake to resume it later from the saved design list. - EDIT: just checked again. The size change is applied (the bug is still there), but if you want to check the design on different sizes, it's now a back-and-forth between the design list and the editor. Before the change, you jumped back to the product size and could manage it right from there, so no big deal then. Please activate that pop-up you developed, at least - it's an elegant solution that works for all.

You don't have to invent anything new - you already developed the solution. It's your "save & exit" pop-up I showed in my screenshot. Just don't suppress it.

@jophb The crazy multiple tabs thing was happening to me a few days ago. Thank God it stopped! I thought there was something wrong with my browser too. Good to know this is on Zazzle's end, but I found it horrific. Maybe it would be different from a customer perspective, but I very quickly found myself with about 30 open tabs... multiple tabs for the same product in different states of editing and no clue how I got there. Absolute chaos!

I’ve been having major issues too.  Multiple tabs opening up.  Every time I try to move graphics around or do something they freeze and I have to refresh the page and start over.  It is so annoying.  I hope this doesn’t last too much longer.  Has anyone else had these problems?

Still happening here and it is soooooo not good

Ditto. Still multiple tabs for me. Not fixed yet.

Truly hate this test. 😩 Both for the million tabs that have opened, and that it broke our replace tool access.  It is pure chaos. I have tabs open that I swear I already closed multiple times. I can't even keep track of what I'm working on. I wish it would end.

jophb
Valued Contributor III

Please make this AB test stop. So now if I click on 'sell this design' and for some reason need to cancel and edit the design, I have to re hit 'edit this design' which opens a THIRD tab of the same product.

I have accidentally found the 'replace tool' option from this, it's there on the second window that opened, but only once I hit 'sell design' and then hit 'cancel'. Beyond confusing. @Marcia @SJoy

@jophb AGHHHH!!! But thanks so much for somehow finding the replace tool & posting that tip! Very much appreciated!!! I hope it works for me.

Marcia

@jophb thank you again – I just tried your workaround & it works! How convoluted!!! Zazzle, PLEASE fix this already.

jophb
Valued Contributor III

You are welcome! And yes I agree!

jophb
Valued Contributor III

If a customer (and us of course) hits 'transfer this design' from an existing product, it then opens a new tab for the new product (normal), then when you hit the edit button, it opens a 3rd tab. This is ridiculous.

Cat

OMG it's doing it again. I have 8 million tabs open and I can't find anything! Please Zazzle, if you think this feature is helpful for customers that's fine - but please give designers a way to turn it off. It makes it virtually impossible to work!

OMG NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's doing it to me too. It's HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!

It's happening to me as well. This is awful!

Connie

Why on earth would anybody even THINK of doing an AB test like this? There’s no earthly reason why such a “feature” would be even remotely useful!!!

Zazzle doesn't seem to care that the system isn't working properly, as the issue with the Edit button still hasn't been fixed. That's a shame.

TRW

Anyone else experiencing an issue where when you click to upload design that it force opens a new tab? Just started today.
I hope this is a temporary glitch because it's really annoying!

Yes, I noticed that today too. I also have a few missing products in my store, and I'm wondering if it's a technical glitch or something.

Do you think it might be linked to my issue? I noticed that about 7 or 8 products were missing from my store this morning. I didn't get an email stating that they were removed for copyright or trademark infringement. Unless Zazzle just took them down and hasn't sent me the email yet.

wglad it's not just me, but really not pleased that it IS happening and we have no recourse but to accept it.
in addition to losing 2/3 of my past zazzle income, I do not need more and more work to try and make pennies ...

NHW

It's driving me insane and making things cumbersome and confusing.

Been happening to me too over the past couple of weeks.  It's very annoying having to close out so many tabs.

LiliRaesShoppe

Unfortunately, Ive just joined that crapshow of multiple tabs opening...Also when I click "add your deisgn" it opens a new tab but normally I could right click and open 5 extra tabs so I can do multiple patterns at once (kind of) but now when I do that, it just opens up a new tab with the first design and my other patterns are nowhere to be found even if I've completed the "sell it" page. I've slowly began backing away from Zazzle the past couple of weeks and they are not helping their case what so ever.

jophb
Valued Contributor III

The replace tool has been moved back to the right spot, but that does not negate the fact that the multiple tabs is still a massive issue.  Ironically, when you used to click into a product from the marketplace search, it opened a new tab, which was good. Now it doesn't do that, which is bad. Flip them back please!

wpl
Contributor II

yes please!!! it is driving me crazy!!! tell me this is a glitch! Also I don't like why it does not take me direct to design editor and takes me to "Moments" first! why oh why! I don't need it as a designer please!

Sea-Change

I hope this issue is fixed soon. It creates a confusing mixture of tabs, especially when transferring to other products.
