How Did a Customer Transfer a Design When Design Transfer is Disabled?

I have design transfer turned off in my store. Today someone transferred this business card design onto a luggage tag. How did they do it? I don't see that option anywhere on the product page.

Curious if the purchase was made by a returning/repeat customer?  Seems in the other post the transfer was done by a repeat customer.

What I wonder is if once a customer purchases something with the design and comes back to the design/product that is stored in their purchase history... if opening that, does it allow for transfer, even though it did not when on your product page...  not sure if that makes sense...  But if yours was made by a repeat customer, then that would be something that is shared between this post and the other one linked by @Barbara

Just thought I'd share this thought as it seems in Colorwashs post the mod did not know why or how it occurred... so maybe the act of opening a previous purchase somehow makes it possible... idk...

Hi AG, Did you Doublecheck your advanced settings—-(this may be the problem)
Make sure Enable Design Transfer is UNCHECKED, then click SUBMIT
Make sure to check the settings in all of your stores. If that doesn’t solve it, then
May be an issue for the Mods to follow up on.
I just followed your link and tried several different ways to transfer it, there are no links on the page to be able to transfer it, that I could find.

Thanks Idraw. Yes, I checked the settings in my store before posting.

What do the settings in my other stores have to do with it?

Each of your stores has its own “enable design transfer” box to uncheck.

I know. But you said to check my other stores and I was wondering what that had to do with design transfer in my AugieDoggyStore. 🙂 We can have design transfer on in some stores and off in others, can't we?

Good point, some of the stores can be opted in, some opted out.
Still a mystery to me as to how it was transferred without anything on the page to do it. I’ll be interested in what z mods have to say about it. Puzzling.

Me too! And I already have that design on a luggage tag, so they didn't have to transfer it anyway.

This has happened before and the mod could not figure it out and said they would investigate.

Here is the thread. https://community.zazzle.com/t5/ask-a-question/design-transferred-without-the-transfer-ability-on-pr...

I also do Postcrossing!

Thanks! And I could have sworn it happened to me once before, and I asked about it on the old forum. But maybe I'm misremembering.

As a test I went to your link and saw no option to transfer. I tried putting it on other product option sizes to see if that would trigger Design Transfer showing up but no. I saw nowhere on the page that I, a faux customer, could transfer it. I can't figure out how they did it.

I was thinking maybe a person could get around it by opening the design tool and copy-pasting, as it not locked to editing.. but that didn't work either 🤷‍

I went to thread linked to here and discovered it was my question about the same situation that triggered the thread. I'd forgotten it happened to me too. My last note in the thread was that the customer must have been a wizard, and I'd say, AG, that you've met up with yet another wizard because, like others here, I went to your business card and found no way on earth it could have been transferred. Or was it transferred at all? Could it be an error in the royalty listing?

I don't think it's an error, because they also bought the matching business cards at the same time.

I've ordered my own products in the past so I'm going to find one and see if I now have a transfer option.

YES! This is the answer! I went to a product of mine that I had previously purchased, and there it was--I could now transfer the design onto any product I wanted.

MODS, can we have this looked into, please? I (and am sure others) have licensed some of my designs that are not allowed to be used on greeting cards and postcards. I legally agreed to this, so I can't have customers being able to transfer my designs as they please.

Great investigation and thanks for sharing the results. I continued to follow this post because I was simply curious.

As the original designer/publisher we can do a lot of things with our own products others can't. We'd need someone who's purchased someone else's product with transfer turned off to see if they can do it? I tried all kinds of things with your linked item, including going as far as putting it in my Cart and also Saved for Later and couldn't find my way into a transfer option with it. I believe you are right, that actually purchasing something is creating the leak to transfer, but you know, I like to be certain of things so do hope a Mod can confirm if this is the case or not.

I did think of that, but I don't have any transfer options no matter how I look at my products, unless I purchased one of them and go back to it from my order page.

I know some Zazzlers have purchased some of my products, but I won't name them for privacy reasons. Hopefully they'll see this thread and can check!

(Edit: I can confirm that the customer previously bought the same business cards, so it's likely she went through her orders to buy more, than saw the transfer option and got a luggage tag too.)

Mark, just checking to see if anything further has been discovered as to how a customer can transfer when this feature is turned off. It just happened to me in the one store I have with this turned off. I’ve only had 20 sales in this shop so I can easily confirm it’s not a repeat customer. I’m so perplexed by this. The design doesn’t transfer well. Things shift way out of line and there’s no way for the customer to “fix” it as the design parts are locked down. She’s gonna be really disappointed when she receives it, especially if she didn’t notice the shift. Crazy thing is that I have the same design on the other product she transferred to. It shows up right under on the product page and it’s in the collection.

Hi @Judi_WithAnI,

I'm very sorry to hear you experienced an issue here. I sent you an email on this to see if we can investigate this further for you and resolve the issue.

Thank you for your patience!
