Views no longer on Product Page

Is this intentional? I used to do my research by checking for Editor's Picks (still available) and also the popularity of the product/design based on if it's 'Trending', zazzle had stats under the price. Does anyone know if this is permanent? I know Etsy sellers do research that way on etsy, checking for best sellers/how many in cart, etc..

I only ask because I watch Etsy Sellers on YouTube say it's good to see what's selling, trending to help with identifying popular niches... I can see your point CrazyMermaid, but I heard one woman say, there's enough room in the pot for everyone trying to succeed (maybe Etsy has a bigger pot). I understand that some are copying others TOO MUCH which is wrong, and I understand that it's good to create our own designs. But it's also good to see something selling well and try to make a better design if you can. Either way it looks like it's been removed.

Isn't the use of stats in the management section a better gauge for how a product is doing?

Our individual product stats show us how well a particular product of ours is doing. The views/trending data previously shown in the Zazzle marketplace show designers what type of designs/niches are trending Zazzle wide—and that is valuable research data that we can’t get from our own product stats.

I would also like to see that data restored.

A person without many sales probably does. People with sales and views probably want their privacy respected.

You can still see what’s trending by Zazzle’s top search results and by using 3rd party Zazzle analytic tools….so what’s the point in hiding the data? It’s still there for other people to glean.

If Zazzle hides the data, then hopefully other parties won't have access to it. Those parties only have access because Zazzle provides it. There is also a qualitative difference in making people pay for something each month and serving it up for free on the product page. I think the former cuts down on the number of people rifling through other peoples' designs.  It also frustrates me, because that data is no longer accurate, because all of the Zazzlers hunting for "inspiration" and doing trend analysis.

CrazyMermaid, does that mean that you never learned this way and if so, please share how you learned to be successful on the platform without looking at trending insights? Thanks for any advice you are willing to share!

I'd think maybe that's why they decided it was a bad idea and removed it making views private again. Maybe they don't want people jumping on the bandwagon of what's already popular and to instead dream up new unique stuff.

Also I think views on EPs might be a little misleading. EPs all get bunched together in the top pages of search results so its natural they are going to get more views as it's all one sees, especially with stationery, unless you're willing to scroll page after page.

I hope this is permanent. I would like my data to stay private. It is really no one else's business how many views one of my products gets.

Editor’s Picks don’t automatically lead to sales. I agree that bunching them all at the top of the search results is not useful.

Top-selling and top-viewed products will always display at the top of search results, so I don’t have a problem with the number of views being displayed for customers (or others) to see. Those stats might entice potential customers to buy my products.

I agree that there is enough room in the Zazzle marketplace for everyone. People may try and copy my designs, but there’s only one me, and my design style is unique. I don’t worry about things that I can’t control. I stay focused on being the best version of me that I can be.

Well it is possible for Zazzle to control our pro-status (or abolish the entire concept), our trends, views, and keywords. I would love them all taken out of the public view. Let everyone do their research from scratch instead of piggybacking on the success of others. Time will tell how much room there is in the market place.

What do you mean by that? This has been an interesting discussion, and I appreciate all the different points of view. 🙂

Unless a design is copyright free then no it’s not ok to copy  and “make better”. That is just theft.

I'm not so sure that's what she meant. It would be more like seeing a cute white kitten design, one sitting on a pink cushion, and thinking, "I can do that sort of thing, but mine would be a kitten pushing a pink-and-white beach ball." More inspiration than any kind of copying.

You are probably correct and I misunderstood.  In which case I apologise.  I just get annoyed with the amount of people who are happy to steal.

Thanks for that, and yes, that's what I meant by "make a better design"
