We were told to create covers and that they would take priority in the marketplace

I have products in a niche with only 65 items.

None of my products with covers are at the top. All the one's that are, have NO covers. Clearly covers are not required anymore.

Should we stop creating covers?

Exactly, @CreativeLeahG  Maybe it's better to ignore what Zazzle says, as the collections are also a disaster.
The only reason I now continue with covers is that I like a consistent look on my own website ...

I made myself ill when they announced covers were taking priority trying to protect my best sellers (only to have them buried by Editor's picks anyway, so that was a waste of time) for no apparent reason, now. As you say they can enhance a page, but if we don't need them, I am very happy not to create them.

I just did collections to help my zRank and I either hid them or pushed them down to the bottom. I already had categories set up, the collections thing is so niche.

Hmmm, that's interesting! I wonder if they only did it for the main niches with a lot of competition? Over time I have noticed better views and sales on products with cover photos, but I think the collection changes have helped me a lot more than that.

I did in the beginning, hence I am wondering if they've now reversed that decision.

Maybe they did reverse it, after so many of us complained that it was unfair to skew the marketplace like that. too bad they aren't reversing the pages and pages of EPs!

Since I’m not in the weddings, baby shower, graduation, or birthday niches (basically anything involving greeting cards), the new collection feature hasn’t improved my sales, as far as I can tell.

They said now that you can put Home & Living into the Cross-sell category too. Maybe try that? i have noticed a decline in those product sales myself, so I need to follow my own advice and change those collections to Cross-sell. Just haven't had the time to fiddle with it yet.

I was thinking they helped Zazzle in that google saw many different images rather than many images essentially the same. I guess that in theory this should raise your image profile in google. Note- I don't actually know, this is just me taking a wild guess.

@CreativeLeahG We were also told to organize our store by setting up different product categories, sub-categories etc., and even upload the cover photo for each category,  because it will make our store look more "professional", and also help customers find the right products more "easily."  What is your take on doing this category thing? Thanks!

It will help you to have a well-presented shop. Mine aren't (too many!) and hence my profile is treated as 'my shop'.
