It would be so nice if Background Color was added as a personalization option under the same link that offers  text or photo personalization on the item purchase page.  If text & photo only options are permitted, why not allow the background color option also?  Any thoughts?

This would be a tremendous improvement. But not tied in to the template panel. I have a number of design collections based on the ability to change the background color to anything you want to match your decor or make a mix & match look with multiple products. Like this one. They have no text or photo templates. I've long wanted to see a backgound color selector option on the product page like there is for envelopes.

But I can see all the headaches this would entail. What about all the products with multiple sides/design areas? Just your basic folding card has four "sides" that each have their own background option. Then there's sets like bath towels, wrapping paper sheets, acrylic coasters ... where each piece of the set only has one design side but each piece has its own background option. And then there's things like can coolers and gift bags that have multiple design sides/areas but also have a separate layer for 'Background: Images and Text'.  And then there's all the designs where background color doesn't even matter because it's not visible under the all-over design the designer made. That would be confusing for a customer, changing the bg color on the product page but not seeing any change on the preview. (I posted about that in the old forum, how confusing it is to try and change the printed background color for an envelope using the product page option, only for it never to change because the background color is not visible under the design. Like this random example from the MP)

It would be a great option, but only if Z could figure out how to do it in a way that doesn't clutter the product page and utterly confuse both designer and customer.

I would like to see it set up just like a text or photo.  That way the designer decides if the background can be alter since they know if their design is set up for it.

@De has an interesting idea though I'm not really sure how that would be different from the color grouping feature that already exists.

I personally find the background selection on the envelopes to be very confusing. Seriously, it took me over a year to figure out that I actually could change the background color on an envelope since you can't do it from within the design tool, and it never occurred to me to look for it on the product page. Even now that I know it's there, I find it very difficult to use because you have to keep entering and exiting the design tool to change the background color. So, if they did offer this on all products, I'd want it to be in addition to the backgrounds tab in the design tool, not instead of it, like it is with envelopes.

I also think it has the potential to confuse customers when the design has a full frame image layer because if they changed the color, nothing would happen. As a backgrounds designer I periodically get questions from customers who tried to add a background but it didn't show up because there was a full frame layer covering it up. So clearly, at least some customers don't understand that aspect of design.

The other thing is that I would find it difficult to promote products that have an "any color" theme. I just don't think anybody searches for "any color" - they always search for the color they're looking for.

Grouping is great, but lavender and lilac are very close in color, yet someone may just desire the ability to change it.  That way we can make a few colors and if what they are looking for isn't created, they have the ability to tweak one to their liking.  Of course, I would know how to do that.  That just seems ridiculous.

Hi @De

Many thanks for the suggestion. I'll certainly be passing this along to the Team 📝

@Cat

Envelopes are confusing because there is no background option in the Design Tool on any of the layers. It's treated as an option selected from the product page. However, you don't have to go in and out of the Design Tool to change it. From within the Design Tool, you can click on the Products tab from the left menu and that lets you change any options that are otherwise only found on the product page, such as handle color on combo mugs or paper size or type  ...  and the change is reflected in the Design Tool.

@ColsCreations Ha! You're a genius! Why didn't I think of that? That will certainly make it easier, thanks so much!

Yes, I have no clue on envelopes as I've never created one, at least not with a design.  Clueless there.   I do know t-shirts and some other items that come in a few color choices though.
