I am able to see the digital downloads, so I played around with it. It is a very easy and straight forward process to order instant downloads and what you can and cannot do with them, after you download them. These are a few of my observations. I just picked these products randomly. If I uploaded photos with any info, I wasn't suppose to show, one of the MODS please delete. I didn't notice anything unusual, except what I listed below.
The image and color are much clearer & brighter on the digital copy, so I'm not sure how it would print or look, for the customer, on the digital copy, as opposed to the actual product, after the customer downloads it.
This is the way the screen looks, on the page with the instant download selected. I went in and changed the back of the card background color. I do think it would be a good idea to lock our images, if we do not want a customer to go into the edit design and move, change or delete the designs or backgrounds. I wish we had a way to lock the background color, in the edit design. The customer can change anything you want them to, with the personalize this template.
This is the checkout cart, with the different sizes I selected and you can see the background color on the digital copy is much darker, than the original product we offer. You can see where the promo code was automatically applied.

Maybe I worded this wrong, I am not suggesting Zazzle or anyone lock the edit design or bar a customer from using it.
Yes, I know we already have the ability to lock an element on a design, if we don't want the element changed.
I know I can upload a solid colored image and use it as my background color and lock it, if I choose.
The colors on the product page and the colors on the phone look different on different products. The customers might wonder what the colors will look like on the final download, if they are darker, lighter, brighter etc.

Can't they do the same thing with a physical copy? The whole point of using Zazzle is so the customer can customize the product.

I was talking more about the creator they may not want the background color changed or if they don't want an element of their design changed, moved or deleted, in the edit using design tool, that they haven't listed on the personalize this template.

Right, but if you bar customers from using the design tool (which is basically what you would be doing) than their chances of changing anything is nil. If you allow them to go into the design tool without those options than they are left with adding secondary background content you don't want them to use because it would mean less royalty to you.
