Brand New Store - Need tips for online marketing

Hi all,

My name is Matt, I'm a New Zealand based graphic designer and have been creating space-inspired digital art in my spare time since the 2020 lockdown. I've been encouraged by friends to try sell my designs online so decided to give it a go and for the last week have been setting up my store and social media accounts.

I really want to hit the ground running with social media promotion, particularly on Pinterest and Benable, but am quite unexperienced and find it all a tad overwhelming. I'm starting out by pinning/listing 5 store products per day but beyond that am not too sure what to do to grow an audience. Should I mix in other creators designs that match my vibe?

Any tips/trick for using these sites to grow would be absolutely amazing.

Thanks!

I have given up on Pinterest because Pinterest makes it so hard to use the site. I will be glad to follow you from my Benable at https://benable.com/Windy

I check in to Benable a few times a day and look at my notifications. This will show me all the activity initiated by the people I follow at Benable.

I look at each of the notifications from those people I follow, and then I click through to the item they have just posted or the list to which they have just added, and I make a point to like one or two of the items or to like the the entire list.

Pinterest and Me. We're a thing again.

@MattmasI would suggest you educate yourself with what has already been written within these forums. You can do a search using keywords within each individual forum to find many answered posts.

What you are asking is a tall order. Everyone's experiences are different because we all use promotional platforms differently. For example while @Windy doesn't have much success on Pinterest, many of us do have success on that platform.

Use Z forums and the Help pages on any of those promotion / social media platforms to learn more.

Best of luck. 💐

Hi Matt, welcome! Your space-inspired art sounds amazing. I remember feeling just as overwhelmed when I started out, so you’re not alone.

For Pinterest, a few things that have worked well for me:

  • Consistency is key. Pinning a few products every day, like you’re already doing, really does add up over time.

  • Don’t be afraid to mix in other content that fits your vibe — things like mood boards, color palettes, or interiors. It helps people see your art in context and gives your boards more depth.

  • Keywords make a big difference. When you’re writing titles and descriptions, think about the words someone would actually type in if they were looking for your art. For example, instead of just “Galaxy Poster,” something like “Space Wall Art for a Modern Living Room” will usually perform better.

It does take a little while to build momentum, but if you stick with it and keep things consistent, you’ll start seeing results. Wishing you lots of success with your new store! Here’s my Pinterest if you’d like to see how I mix in products and inspiration: https://www.pinterest.com/dotellabelle/_saved/
