I have been lax in learning the dos and don'ts of promoting and am now forced (like many others) to take the time to get smart about this.
So I have only one request:
please list the best Do's and Don'ts for promoting designs in the various social media outlets etc. I'm certain other will appreciate and learn from your responses and maybe with some luck this could be a saved post for all designers to learn from
The only don't I have learned so far is: Don't post your products at a time of day where there is less traffic and eyes on the platform. It takes a little research but you can learn the peak and off times. I'm a very early riser and found out it was maybe not the best time to be promoting
Your turn...

It’s not a boring subject; I just don’t have any expertise to share. I know that Pinterest has a Pinterest Academy that is fairly comprehensive, but it’s been a long time since I read the material and I don’t remember much due to general oldness. I have an Instagram account, but I don’t post there consistently. All of my followers are other Zazzlers, so they don’t buy my products. Because of that, I don’t make any sales from Instagram.

I post to my blog on Blogger. I have daily posts created up until the end of November ready to go. Then each day I share the latest published post on Facebook, Twitter, Bluesky, also also Pinterest. My blog posts often have a lot of Zazzle images with links, and you can post them all to Pinterest with one click. Link to My Blog...

Thanks for taking the time to post something. I just realized it might be that nobody wants to help anybody to compete with them. I completely understand and wish you all continued success

I’m not in competition with other Zazzle designers. I feel like we are a team. There is plenty of space and opportunities for everyone to succeed here. 🙂

Hi @igiftcenter
The best tip I ever discovered about pinning to Pinterest is to name your boards using the exact phrases people are actually searching for related to the stuff you’re posting.
I generally make a Pinterest board for each of my Zazzle collections (and often include other related, but non-competing pins to my boards to make them more interesting). However. the key thing I found is the importance of your board names.
So say, for example, you’ve got a blue floral wedding collection. You might think of calling your board “Blue Floral Wedding Invitation Suite,” which sounds fine, but it’s important to check if anyone’s really searching for that exact phrase.
I’ll type “Blue Floral Wedding Invitation Suite” into the Pinterest search bar, switch from “My Pins” to “All Pins,” and look at the suggestions that pop up underneath. If only your exact words appear, and there’s nothing else suggested, it probably means it’s not a term people are actively searching for.
Instead, I try alternative titles like “Blue Floral Wedding” or “Blue Flowers Wedding,” and see if those or similar phrases come up as suggestions. Then I just pick whichever popular search term makes the most sense for my board.
This isn’t just for weddings, it for any niche or collection you’re sharing. Always definitely worth checking what people are typing into the search bar.
It doesn’t guarantee loads of self-referrals, but it’s worked way better for me than when I used to name my boards without doing a bit of research first. I don’t generally make manual pins, which I understand are supposed to perform better, although I haven't found this to be the case for me with the ones I have made, and I figured pinning directly from the product page every time I post an item for sale, is better than not pinning at all due to time constraints of making all pins manually.
Hope this helps as it's certainly made a difference for me.

Thank you. With so many complaining about sales being down it can't hurt to spread a little knowledge to help those experiencing challenges. I am no exception and I mistakenly never took the time to force myself to learn the art / luck 🙂 of promoting. I'm hoping this helps myself and others learn where to direct our attention and how to work smart instead of hard. Thank you once again, very valuable info
