Threads - the new Social Media platform from Instagram.

Like 10 million others, I've just signed-up to Threads. It seems excellent for sharing Zazzle products along with your text posts. Although Zazzle doesn't have a Threads share icon (yet), it doesn't matter, because you simply copy the text link, and paste with your Threads message.

And the best bit is that not only does your product show up, it also LINKS TO YOUR PRODUCT PAGE! (Something you couldn't do with Instagram.)

Here's My Threads Page...

It's not as toxic as Twitter, so give it a go. And I'd welcome any new followers!

I'm signed up ... but I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get Threads added to our referrals?

Not sure what you mean by added to referrals - your links generate your referrals, the platform doesn't make any difference. The buttons for Pinterest, Facebook etc. don't make it possible to use those platforms to get referrals - they just make it easier to post.

When we first switched to the new referral program we had to send in our social media accounts. Or something like that, I can't quite recall exactly how it went down. Since we are no longer using our ID numbers. Or is this system now outdated?

I don't think it makes any difference - as long as the incoming link doesn't include your associate ID  (oh.. and isn't shortened... so don't use bitly or any of it's like to make your links smaller...) it's a promoter link and it doesn't matter where it comes from. I didn't join the first iteration, I started with promoter 2 and I don't recall having to send in social media accounts.

Thanks!

It isn't that the system is outdated, it just never worked that way(at least with PP2).  Even though we provided websites and socials, they aren't "registered" in the sense that that is how we get a referral.  I have sent promoter links via text messages (Z has no way to know my phone number or track my texts) and still got my promoter self referral. Like Penguin said, it is the link that gets the referral not the site.  I have no idea how they actually know though.

I've managed to sign up and create a post. I have yet to figure out how to find public threads. Search does seem to be for people and hashtags don't seem to work.

I guess I've been under a rock as I'd heard nothing about Threads until seeing it here so I just went to read all about it. It's more of an optional feature for Instagram users than a stand-alone app. You need to have an Instagram account (or create a new one) to get into Threads which utilizes the same account data and log-in credentials. If you delete your Threads account it deletes your Instagram account as well as they are inextricably linked. You have to install the app on your mobile device to use Threads. If you know someone's username you can look at their page on the web by going to www.threads.net/@username but that's all you can do, you can't post, comment, Like, or even log-in to your own account. And once on your phone you are giving it permission to access just about everything on your device. It doesn't support hashtags, search is only for usernames, and there is no direct-messaging. There is no custom feed for just accounts you follow, instead you get content from people you follow and people you don't.

If I had a burner phone with no personal data on it and wanted to create a new separate Insta account just for Threads, I'd give it a whirl. As is, I'm taking a pass on this newest social media upstart.

Yeah, like I said I managed to sign up using the Thread app and everything. I am just not sure how to navigate it. Yes, the app itself uses the Instagram data, but everything else is separate. I'll figure out how it works eventually.

Bit puzzled that you say "you can't post, comment, Like, or even log-in to your own account". I can do all those things - I just checked. I use an iPad. I log in easily, (using fingerprint recognition), can post easily, can "like" my own posts, (I just tried), and have also commented on one of my own posts.

The reason Threads has straightaway gained so many millions of users is because it is linked to Instagram. Joining is a breeze as Instagram users don't have to do much to do so. The platform does it automatically.

You're right that it doesn't support hashtags - yet. Although Meta does say that it's early-days, and you can expect additional features to be rolled-out along the way.

I'm sure the iPad is using the iOs app. There is no "desktop" version of Threads. If you go to threads.net in a web browser there is nothing there except a QR code to download the app. If you go to a User's link such as yours, it is read-only.

There's no menu, no log-in option, nothing except the QR code to download the app. If you click the QR code, or the Like or Comment icons,  you get

It is notable that the links in your post ARE clickable, but people can't comment or even give you a Like unless they are using the mobile app. (Also, FYI - the link in the top post to your "Purrfect Day" card goes to a 'product not found' page.)

Also notable is that there is an icon to switch to the person's Instagram page, and conversely there's an icon on Insta to switch to the person's Threads page.

In reply to this question you posted on Threads -

Cartoon cat face... I've linked to the UK page. Will be interesting to know if it diverts to the USA Zazzle site for friends in the States..?
I was logged in to zazzle.com (on a desktop) and your link took me to the UK Zazzle where I was urged to log in. So no direct link to your product but rather to the main Zazzle "Birthday Cards" page in the UK. Presumably your affiliate ID code would have followed me so that if I'd purchased anything you'd have got a commission.
I'm not sure how these affiliate links work outside of Threads but are presumably the same - unless the viewer of said link is in the same country then they won't go to your product but will rather be re-directed to another page on Zazzle in their own country.
Hope that helps.
