Collaboration Not Working

Hi,

I have a customer who would like me to adjust the layout on one of my wedding programs that she has already edited. I ask her to send me a collaboration link, and she did, but when I open it, it only allows me to view the document (which actually looks kind of blurry), but I can't edit anything. Anyone else have this happen? This is now the second time that I have run into this issue. What am I doing wrong?

Regards,

Dawn

I haven't used that feature much, but I think that once you're both in the collaboration screen she has to had control over to you before you can do anything - but I can't remember how that's accomplished.

Personally, I find it much easier to have the customer send me a "share link" (use the copy link option from the share this design popup) and then I can go in and make the edits on my own time rather than trying to do it while we're both sitting there. It's much easier scheduling-wise and I don't feel like I'm trapped there while the person is waiting for me to finish.

I thought it might help if I attached a screenshot so you could see what I am seeing when I click the collaboration link. As you can see, I can only see the wedding program, which is very blurry, and there is no way to actual work on the program with the design tools.

Thank you for pointing out the difference in sharing methods @Cat. I did not realize there were two options. I would GREATLY prefer to work on the product without the customer being present. I will ask her to share the link again using the "copy link".

The two collaboration attempts between myself and a client (in October 2022) didn't work out, either.

At first, we thought it was because my client was still in the designs, but even after she had exited it (aka gave control to me), and I went back into the designs, I was still unable to make any changes. We tried this a few times but were unable to collaborate.

So I created the designs from scratch and sent my client the direct link. She replied with one round of edits (just a single request for a change), and that sealed the deal.

Agreed with @Cat -- much better than waiting for the other party to respond.

The above example illustrates the ONLY times I have attempted collaboration.

99% of the time, my clients will just go with my design and use its templates to modify with their details -- I don't need to get involved via chat or email.

To give you control of the design you both have to be in it at the same time and then they have to click your little profile icon. This will allow you to edit. For them to take back control of the design they just have to click the profile icon again.

aha ... thank you @Laura-LiseWong !

You're very welcome! I do collabs all the time but it is not always user friendly.
