I thought that the option to modify existing designs was now available to everyone, however when I attempt to update a design for an oversight (like forgetting to turn on allow editing on product page) I do not have the option that lets me update the design. It only wants me to publish it as a new product, which I do not wish to do when it's a design with high views already and/or sales.
Were we not sent an announcement that this feature was now universal? How can I access it?

It’s not available to everyone yet, including me.

I didn't realize it was still in beta?? Because I swear I remember a message saying it was now available to everyone. It should be something we all already had. This is frustrating because little oversights like forgetting to make one line of text a template object means I have to republish the entire product when the original has hundreds of views already... very archaic.

I have searched a little for this in the forums, because I too thought this was available to all at this point. However, the forum post I have been searching did specify that certain things will not bring the replace product button. Such as changing a text to a template object.
I also do Postcrossing!

I've seen it work for that, just not on this account. So no, I do not think everyone has been given the feature (and fixing text to make it a template object seems like a very important thing that needs to be made available! and shouldn't need to be approved either. LOL! Many customers aren't comfortable with or even know about the design tool. If they can't edit a line of text on a design, they might not stick around. I do not want to delete the design I was questioning because the views are so high, and more savvy customers have been able to edit it and work around my oversight. But I need to be able to fix it. This is bananas. It shouldn't be this difficult.) I do not think we all got the feature, even tho I really do remember it being said it's now available to all.

From a Zazzle email dated 10/19:
...
As we approach the middle of October and move into November, we are seeing an increase in sales in anticipation of the holiday season. This means that the demand on our review team is much greater with very important order reviews, which is leaving less and less time to review our design edits. All of this brings us to ask our creator community to only submit essential edit requests via this tool to help minimize its impact on our content review team over the next few weeks. When we say essential, we mean an edit that is meant to correct a product that would otherwise be returned or disliked due to the error/detail you are fixing like spelling errors or year updates.
Edits you can make without using the product edit tool:
- Title, tags, descriptions, and department
- Merch views/ Cover photo edit/addition
- Categories
- Royalties
- Visibility.
- When your product has low view and no sales, you should simply republish it to the Marketplace. This generally is faster and will not require a review.
Depending on the impact of this request and your cooperation, we might have to temporarily rescind Product edit access from all Creators on November 14th in order to let our team focus on essential customer orders.

No, I haven't had the feature AT ALL EVER. So this doesn't help, but thank you for this information, it is useful in other contexts.
I remember a notice going out that said everyone now has the features. But I have NEVER seen the replace product button on this account. I've seen it work and appear for fixing things like template object errors but not on this account. So did everyone get the features or NOT, prior to yesterday? My issue also happened before November 14th as well, so this isn't an answer to my question unfortunately.

Thank you for finding this. I remembered I got the email, but I forgot what they considered essential. It's good to know that changing the year is considered essential.

Here is a link to information that was posted in August, https://community.zazzle.com/t5/store-management/replace-tool/m-p/34749
"I received an email from Zazzle Support on August 26, 2022 that said in part ...
Unfortunately this is a feature being tested by a few select Creators and we cannot provide access for it at this time. However, should the tool become usable by the Creator community as a whole, it will be announced on the community forums"
