How do you remove an image from an album without deleting it?

I'm trying to get organized and put my images into albums - especially since search is still not working, and I'm having a really hard time finding what I need. I've accidentally put a few into the wrong album and I can't for the life of my figure out how to get them out without deleting the image completely. Is there some way to do it?

I just went back to make sure the photo I moved earlier was still in the new album and not deleted so I'm giving you the correct information. You might want to test it with a new photo and not something you definitely don't want to lose but it worked for me. This is what I did. ⬇️

I had a particular photo in a wrong album. I clicked on that photo and added it to the new appropriate album. I made SURE it was in the new album then went back and deleted it from the old album. I returned to the new album to make sure it was STILL in the new album.

I had to add it to another album. I couldn't figure out a way to simply have it show under all images without being in an album.

I do not see a way either. Is there a way to delete the album itself? I don't see one. If I could, I could describe a cheat that might work (Add all wanted to new album, delete old album).

Here's how to delete the album. In My Images click My Albums. You’ll see all your albums as blocks. Find the album you want to delete and if it's empty it will just show a blue folder. Then click the little box next to the album name and go to the bottom right of the page and click Delete Selected.

I think if you click the photo and select Add To Album (adding it to another album) it goes to the new one and you should be able to delete from the original one. Seems a bit clunky but I just did it with one of my old photos.

@PAZP So do you mean that if I go to the album, select the photo that's not supposed to be there and choose delete, I'm only deleting it from the album, not deleting it entirely?

It worked!!! You're a genius! Thanks so much. Now, hopefully I can get my mess arranged so I'll have some hope of finding things!

Glad it worked. I wouldn't say genius but definitely persistent. 😂

I had to try several options before figuring it out.

How do I remove an image from my photos permanently.

I just added my answer to someone who probably wanted to answer here, but posted a new thread. under Tips here

I believe if you delete an image from the first location it is saved to, it is deleted from your saved images.

This is what I answered in the above mentioned thread.

As I understand it (and when image indexing is working properly):

Save an image directly to an album.
Save same image to second album.

Delete from second album - image remains in 1st album
Delete from 1st album - image is gone from saved images.

I save all my images to the default ALL IMAGES location.
Adding images to one or more appropriate albums.
Removing from specific albums images I want to keep available and if I want to remove the image from my image collections, I remove it from the ALL IMAGES location.

I believe this is what works all the time.

I think what got me messed up is that I didn't realize that I was inside of an album when I uploaded the image. I'm not sure if that's just me not paying attention or if it's because the image browser is so messed up right now. Anyhow, I guess I need to be more careful in the future! Can you have an image that's inside of an album but not in the ALL IMAGES section?

I loaded images into albums before without realizing I was in an album also. I don't think you can have an image in an album that is not in the ALL IMAGES section but I know it does work the other way around.

I think I did upload one or two images to an album. They MIGHT have been in the all images. I would assume the original folder would still contain the PRIMARY image, not the all images. ???

@Cat  It might help to visualize the way the Great Wad (All Images) works. Everything, even the images uploaded directly into an album, goes into the Great Wad. What we're seeing in our albums are only links to the Great Wad where the images have a true existence. So, when you delete an image from an album, what you're actually deleting is its link to the image in the Great Wad. Delete from an album and that's the only place it's deleted from.

Definition of Great Wad: An enormous heap of wriggling, disgusting thingamabobs.

This is another of many instances where use of an iPad puts the Designer at a disadvantage. The image library as seen on iPad is missing much functionality which is available on the desktop. Some of the solutions offered above may not work for iPad people.
