New Notifications feature on Zazzle main (not the forums) - ?

Run-off from this post in the Technical forum:

line-break-test.png

I was scratching my head wondering where this notification is seen and how long it's been a thing. Then I went to Zazzle main and saw the bell icon for Notifications which said I had two. One was dated May 31 and said "Col's Creations made 15 sales" and the other was dated '3 days ago' (which would have been June 3 or 4) and said "Col's Creations made 6 sales".  Clicking on either just took me to my all-products in back end. I'm pretty certain this feature wasn't here yesterday or even this morning while I was working on a new design. So it must be a pretty new feature but wondering if anyone has figured out a rhyme or reason yet to the " ...had made x sales" notice. Like, for what time period is the notice referring to and how often does it send a notice? Every time you have a new sale since your last log-in or some random number of days?

Also - what other Notifications might there be? When someone adds one of your things to their cart? When someone plays with one of your designs and it's therefore added automatically to their Saved Designs? When someone Follows you? When you get a cancellation? When someone uses a share button from one of your product pages to promote your thing? Etc etc..

Wondering what kinds of Notifications to expect and what kinds of Notifications our own activity might generate for others.

It tells me about a lot more sales than I have.

Or maybe older sales were counted on June 1?

I don't see it so maybe an A/B test.

It doesn't seem to be on all pages. Not on my account page or here on the forum page, but I see it on the product and collection pages as well as my home page.

I saw it yesterday also. It said I had 2notifications. Both were dated May 31st for likes. I did not notice as to  whether the bell stayed there after I clicked on both notifications.
This morning 6/7,  the bell was gone. Possibly it shows up only when there are notifications to alert you.
And I also checked my settings just now to investigate—
Account settings>notification preferences
which has several you can check or uncheck—-
BUT then it says you will receive an EMAIL notification
Either weekly for some or immediately.
6/7, About the line break issue, I added 2 products to one of my collections a few minutes ago, verified they were added, refreshed the page several times, no notification, and no line break message.
I am on a Mac, Firefox.

Glad to see you around here again!

Gosh, I didn't realize it was a new feature, I just thought I hadn't noticed it before - I do tend to get tunnel vision when I'm working and only notice things that are immediately relevant to what I'm doing. Anyhow, I scrolled through mine and from what I can tell there are 3 different kinds of notifications. One when someone likes a product, one when they add one of your products to a collection, and one when they follow your store. There may be more than that, but those are the only ones I'm seeing.

@Cat
I'm going to add one of your products to my cart, see if you get a Notification.

Nope. No notification. I get regular sales every day and there are no notifications for any of them, so I don't think that putting something in the cart or purchasing a product generates a notification - at least not in this feed.

As well as the three notifications you mentioned @Cat, I notice 'Editor's Picks' are showing up there too.

Just found we get notifications for reviews on our products too. Those happen so infrequently, at least for me, that it took a while for this one to show up..lol.

Cool.

So now we know we get notifications for at least the following:

  • sales (no specific timing to them though)
  • when someone adds your product to a Collection
  • when someone Likes your product
  • when someone Follows your store
  • if you get an Editor's Pick
  • if someone reviews your product

I look forward to seeing that option if it makes it past the BETA test.

I hope it does. While I don't like where the rest of Zazzle is going in terms of mimicking a social media site, I do like this Notification feature.

Also notified me when an order I placed from my store had been dispatched, and when it was out for delivery today. Very handy.

Are you getting notifications in this feed when you make a sale? I'm not.

Kind of. i don't have regular daily sales like some of you but ...

My most recent Notification is dated "one day ago" which would have been 6/9.  It says "Col's Creations made a sale" and the little image shows a wrapping paper roll that sold on 6/6.

I had two sales yesterday (6/9), a tie and some tissue paper, different customers, and as yet, no Notification.

Thanks! I see what you mean now. I scrolled down through the feed and found "ZingerBug made 7395 sales." (Take that number with a fairly large grain of salt as it includes backgrounds, most of which I don't get paid for.) Anyhow, clicking on it just brought me to my products feed - oh, but it's ordered by last sold date. Well, I guess that's interesting.

haha same here, I just noticed it! it counts individual items as a sale, that is,if I sold 4 of the same thing, it says 4 sales

BTW, the chat notification seems to have changed too. Instead of just a red dot, this morning I got a "2" indicating that there were two messages waiting for me. That's a helpful feature because it's easy to miss the messages that aren't at the top of the list if you're not careful.

Must be an a/b test or something. I don't have it at all, on any of my pages. And I even had a chat this morning, with the normal red dot.

I see the new icon set

everywhere except for on the Earnings pages and Saved Designs where I still see the old set

must be A/B test and I just got access to it today.  My feedback is that is is kind of distracting and makes me feel like I am on Instagram.  I am sure some people will like being able to see who has liked their products or when one of their shops makes a sale but I come here to design or promote as an affiliate and I don't need distractions like that. ( I can go the the sales report page to see when I have sales.)   Could you possibly make the red bubble where we can toggle it on or off?  That would make it easier to ignore. Thanks!

I didn't have it previously, but it just showed up. I don't quite get the point of how it tells me what I already know, which is how many sales I've made. Doesn't everyone check their sales on a daily basis if not more than that? LOL

Colorwash's Home

It also registers likes, a data point I was previously ignoring because you can't sort by Most Recently Liked (although you can by Most Likes) so seeing them was haphazard, even with that statistic enabled. So I didn't think it was actionable information. I also wrongly assumed that every like must have a corresponding view, something I can sort by and act on. But when this statistic showed up I discovered I was wrong. I had recent likes on products not viewed for awhile. You can like a product by hovering over it and clicking the heart but I didn't think people actually would.

It occurs to me that likes might be part of the where-on-the-page algorithm. Surely sales count for the most but likes as well as views, and perhaps zRank, have got to be in there somewhere too. I just never thought about likes until I saw them in the notifications. So I gave those liked-but-not-viewed products a view for good luck and to keep them from slipping to the red triangle of doom despite being liked.

I read that TOTALLY wrong. I read, they buy your items, take receipt of items and never enjoy or appreciate the items!

I get it NOW. LOL!

It's expanded since I last looked at it, so now I do see some value in it.
