To be clear - I'm taking about being able to modify the product's design (say - adding a template) without have to sell it/post as a whole new product (thus losing its view history, etc).
Are only select designers able to do this? Will it be rolled out to everyone? When?
Would love a moderator to weigh in. Thanks.

That’s the million dollar question. I have asked this question several times, and I have not received an answer.

Don't get your hopes up about adding templates. Currently, it can't be done, not even for a monogram.

I was hot to fix my oldest products that had no text templates. I tried twice, it didn't work and so gave up except for one instance with a product where I should have used "fill" instead of "fit" for the photo template. It worked, but I've found no others like that since. All in all, I'm not impressed.

In the email I got it said not for adding templates to existing products and not for products that have not sold either- along with a few other guidelines, but those 2 were enough to see it wasn't something from which I could really make use. Except maybe to fix the back of greeting cards from the new(ish) attribution stuff, but I do not have the time or inclination to do that!

I never spotted the caveat of not being able to use replace for products that haven't sold, but that sure is a double whammy when it comes to older products that might have sold had they had text templates. My only solution has been to either delete such a product and be done with it or to redo it with a template and post it as a new product. I imagine those who got caught by bad text placement caused by certain fonts having been substituted may have benefited by the replace feature.

I think since changes are being individually reviewed that replacing one that hasn't sold with a brand new one makes more sense since you won't really be losing any marketplace standing and may even benefit from being in the new filter for a bit. I am not sure why you can't add a template where there wasn't one, but it isn't really that big of a deal since I sell stuff without a template as much as with a template and often there is a "c" by things with no template where a customer has just gone in and added what they want in the design tool and I've learned to not fret too much about it. Luckily I had no issues with the font changes that I have run across so far.

I know some mentioned Z might hesitate bc it could be misused (making a whole new product, but keeping the view stats, etc) - but it seems like that could be solved by not allowing certain fields to be changed (prod title, dept, etc).
If it's been completely scrapped - would be good to know.

Zazzle looks over all the products, before they approve or deny the changes. You wouldn't be able to change alot and it look like a new product, Zazzle will not approve those kind of changes. You can't add a text template, if you didn't already have a text template, when you made the original product.
You can change a "placeholder image", but not an actual design, you can change the year, you can change the size of text and an image, you can straighten images and text and fix text typos. It's small changes like that, that Zazzle would probably approve. If a customer is in the process of buying your product, Zazzle will not approve any changes, but you can make the changes later and submit for approval again.
I've found it to be very useful. I did get some of my older products approved, that have never sold.

I know this is an old post, but may I ask WHERE you do this? I'm a little confused by the tab off to the left side (in products) that says "Templates" and says I have none. Should I be creating things that provide template options here so I can later update the year, etc?
For example, I have a calendar with a front cover image of 2024. Could I replace just that spot with another year in the future (and use the rest of the calendar again), or would I need to make a new product and lose all the sales info for the first one?
Definitely still much to learn. Thank you!
Amanda
