I'm confused about how the color white is handled on these invitations. Is a white background printed as an opaque white layer over the vallum, or is a white background treated as clear like it is on standard white paper invitations?

@Cat Vellum is translucent is a type of paper a lot of architects use for doing "finished" tracings. It's beautiful paper for that purpose and is also beautiful as an overlay. I once got hold of some that was tinted beige and mottled so it appeared to be parchment.

Thanks Barbara - I'm pretty sure I understand about the paper, I'm just confused about how they treat white in the printing process. Like if use the color white, will they print with white ink on the vellum, or will it just be blank like it is on a t-shirt with the standard rather than vivid printing?
The mockups are a bit unclear - if you use white text on a blank background you get this, and I'm not sure how to interpret it:
If you use a white background, it almost seems like it makes the text darker, but the background looks the same.
Blank Background:
White Background:
Just trying to figure out if I should make my backgrounds white or leave them blank or if it makes a difference.

It looks as if the text is printed in opaque white, which, if true, means we can create white designs on it that will be there but will be subtle. it would be nice to know how it's actually handled, right?

I think it's a great idea, but I believe it should be an option for the cards that appears for selection, maybe like the envelopes. I think that on its own, the customer might not find it and wouldn't be able to create all the wonderful and creative combinations that come to my mind.

For example, this design could look great with a vellum overlay with the text in dark brown—perfect. But then I would also need to have the card without the front text separately. It seems a bit absurd to create a whole collection just for this. So how can these two products be linked so that the customer can buy them together? They don’t make sense separately, right? It’s just my thought.

@Mariholly I've added an explanatory text to the mock-up, but I am not sure if customers are able to find these things. It's very hard to market this in a way that makes sense. Too bad, as I think it's a beautiful product.
Maybe it would be better if it would be offered as a set? (vellum overlay + photo card or other card without text)? And maybe also add a belly band to that ...

@Anne Did you manage to publish? I tried and got the message: Something went wrong. I don't know... You're absolutely right, I created a category and collection for the vellum papers and tried to include a comment, but I couldn't publish it. I'll try again, maybe it was my mistake. In any case, I vote for your proposal: card + vellum overlay paper + a nice explanatory video like the ones on Pinterest, it would be fabulous!! Then the customer can choose whether they want to buy it together or not.

@Mariholly I simple put in on the cover image:
https://www.zazzle.com/gold_glitter_script_save_the_date_vellum_invitations-256651521603202139
So I am not sure why you couldn't post it? Maybe try again?

I only put it in the description, I don't really like texts on the covers. It seems strange that no one noticed this in a product test. I don't know how they do it on other platforms, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to sell them separately.

I put it both places in the vain hope that people will actually read it.

I did the same thing, but I think it's complicated and my hopes are not high that people will figure it out. I think it would be much better if they were included in one product - a card with a vellum overlay.

@Cat am sure the customers will send you a chat message asking how they can upload their photos to the photo card so you'll be able to explain (because you love answering all those customer queries 😂 ) 😘 😘😘😘

I would have preferred to have vellum WRAPS, which would be a lot less confusing for the customers to know what they are actually getting.

Others might have said similar, but it might help the customer if on the same page a recommended background card (or multiple recommendations) can be added to the order. Could just be a tick box to add. Mock up images might confuse them thinking they are getting the set, or they might want to easily mx and match.
For example I was wondering what this would look like with the background separated but there is no way to show this? -https://www.zazzle.com/vintage_delftware_style_blue_cream_floral_wedding_invitation-2566169246334302...
Or something like this - https://www.zazzle.com/cute_elegant_gradient_photo_overlay_wedding_invitation-256541161212733094 - how can we link or show the background card with the made for placement photo.
